Backford Cross
Backford Cross is a suburban locality of Ellesmere Port, within the unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester, Cheshire, England. It is located at the southern end of the Wirral Peninsula around the A41/ A5117 road junction. Great Sutton is approximately to the north and the village of Backford, near Chester, is about to the south. The area is split between postcode districts, with parts in both Great Sutton, Ellesmere Port (CH66) and in Backford, Chester (CH1). Previously farmland, Backford Cross is largely made up of residential homes built from 1990 onwards and serves as a commuter village to Ellesmere Port and Chester. The area covers the residential area around the Willowdale Way/Yeoman Way circle and the property south of Sycamore Park Garden Centre on the A41 Chester Road. Ellesmere Port and Neston is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2015 by Justin Madders of the Labour Party. History The constituency was formed in 1983, largely from the southern parts of the former Bebington and Ellesmere Port and Wirral constituencies. Both were former Conservative seats. Ellesmere Port ( ) is a port town in the Cheshire West and Chester borough in Cheshire, England. Ellesmere Port is on the south eastern edge of the Wirral Peninsula, north of Chester, south of Birkenhead, southwest of Runcorn and south of Liverpool. The town had a population of 61,090 in the 2011 census. Ellesmere Port also forms part of the wider Birkenhead urban area, which had a population of 325,264 in 2011. Wirral (; ), known locally as The Wirral, is a peninsula in North West England. The roughly rectangular peninsula is about long and wide and is bounded by the River Dee to the west (forming the boundary with Wales), the River Mersey to the east, and the Irish Sea to the north. A41 Road
The A41 is a trunk road between London and Birkenhead, England. Now in parts replaced by motorways, it passes through or near Watford, Kings Langley, Hemel Hempstead, Aylesbury, Bicester, Solihull, Birmingham, West Bromwich, Wolverhampton, Newport, Whitchurch, Chester and Ellesmere Port. With the opening of the M40 extension in 1990 from junction 8, much of the route was downgraded. A5117 Road
The A5117 is a road in Cheshire, England. It runs between Shotwick and Helsby and connects the A550 at Woodbank to the M56. As such it forms a northerly bypass to Chester and a shorter route between the North West and North Wales than the A55. History The road, which was originally known as the "Shotwick – Helsby Bypass", was completed in the mid-1930s. The construction was contemporaneous to other transport major projects in the region such as the East Lanc Road and the opening of the first Mersey tunnel. The road was envisaged to become part of a link that connected the A56 from Manchester to North Wales via the Jubilee Bridge at Queensferry, Flintshire. Great Sutton
Great Sutton is a village on the Wirral Peninsula, in the unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester and the ceremonial county of Cheshire, England. It is a suburb of Ellesmere Port and, as with Little Sutton to the north, was once a separate village that was incorporated into the town as it expanded outwards. History Great Sutton and Little Sutton were mentioned in a single entry in the Domesday Book of 1086 as ''Sudtone'', under the ownership of the canons of St Werburgh's Abbey. Capenhurst railway station serves the village of Capenhurst and its substantial industrial facilities, in Cheshire, England. It also serves outer suburbs of Ellesmere Port. On the former GWR main line from London Paddington to Birkenhead Woodside it is now on the Wirral Line of the Merseyrail network, north of Chester.
