Bachubhai Ravat
Bachubhai Popatbhai Ravat (27 February 1898 – 12 July 1980) was a Gujarati editor and art critic from India. Life Bachubhai Ravat was born on 27 February 1898 in Ahmedabad. He completed his primary and secondary education from Gondal. He also matriculated from there in 1914. He taught at Sangramji High School in Gondal from 1915 to 1919. He worked at Sastu Sahityavardhak Karyalaya from 1920 to 1921. He worked in editing and publishing department of Navjeevan Prakashan Mandir in 1922–1923. He co-edited ''Kumar'' magazine with Ravishankar Raval from 1924 to 1942. He founded weekly literary workshop, Budh Sabha, in 1930 which still continues. He later served as an editor of ''Kumar'' from 1943 to 1980. He served on Bombay State Script Reform Committee in 1953. The Media in Gujarati language started with publication of ''Bombay Samachar'' in 1822. Initially the newspapers published business news and they were owned by Parsi people based in Bombay. Later Gujarati newspapers started published from other parts of Gujarat. Several periodicals devoted to social reforms were published in the second half of the 19th century. After arrival of Mahatma Gandhi, the Indian independence movement peaked and it resulted in proliferation of Gujarati media. Following independence, the media was chiefly focused on political news. After bifurcation of Bombay state, the area of service changed. Later there was an increase in readership due to growth of literacy and the media houses expanded its readership by publishing more number of editions. Sahitya Akademi
The Sahitya Akademi, India's National Academy of Letters, is an organisation dedicated to the promotion of literature in the languages of India. Founded on 12 March 1954, it is supported by, though independent of, the Indian government. Its office is located in Rabindra Bhavan near Mandi House in Delhi. The Sahitya Akademi organises national and regional workshops and seminars; provides research and travel grants to authors; publishes books and journals, including the ''Encyclopaedia of Indian Literature''; and presents the annual Sahitya Akademi Award of INR. 100,000 in each of the 24 languages it supports, as well as the Sahitya Akademi Fellowship for lifetime achievement.
