Bacabal Esporte Clube, also known as Bacabal, are a Brazilian association football, football team from Bacabal, Maranhão. They competed in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C, Série C in 1995 and in 2008. History Bacabal Esporte Clube were founded on March 12, 1974. They won the Campeonato Maranhense in 1996, after beating Sampaio Corrêa Futebol Clube, Sampaio Corrêa and Associação Esportiva Caxiense, Caxiense in the final stage. Bacabal competed in the Campeonato Brasileiro Série C, Série C in Campeonato Brasileiro Série C 1995, 1995, and in Campeonato Brasileiro Série C 2008, 2008, being eliminated in the first stage in both seasons. Stadium Bacabal play their home games at Estádio José Luís Correa (Correão). The stadium has a maximum capacity of 12,000 people. Bacabal is a city in Maranhão, Brazil. It is located approximately 250 km south of the state capital São Luís, Maranhão, São Luís. The city proper has a population of 104,633 (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics, IBGE 2018 estimate). It is the seat of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Bacabal. Campeonato Brasileiro Série C
The Campeonato Brasileiro Série C is the third tier of the Brazilian football league system. Unlike the first and second divisions, the Série C is not played in a double round robin system, arguably because many participating teams lack the financial conditions to travel long distances. Thus, the tournament is organized in regional groups and the table prevents teams from distant states from playing each other in the initial rounds. Until 2008, any professional team could apply, but only 64 teams would take part in the tournament. The teams that had been relegated from the Série B in the previous year were joined by teams qualified for each federation state. Sampaio Corrêa Futebol Clube, commonly referred to as Sampaio Corrêa, is a Brazilian professional club based in São Luís, Maranhão founded on 25 March 1923.
