Babe The Blue Ox (band)
Babe the Blue OX (BOX) are an American, Brooklyn-based rock band. Formed in 1991, the trio was initially composed of Tim Thomas (guitar, vocals), Rose Thomson (bass, vocals) and Hanna Fox (drums, vocals). in 1995, the band contributed the song "Hazmats" to the AIDS benefit album '' Red Hot + Bothered'' produced by the Red Hot Organization. Fox's husband Eddie Gormley was formally added as 2nd drummer in 1998, and the band continues to play a handful of shows a year. In 2010, they were a headline act at the Cincinnati Mid-Point Music Festival. The group's music touches on various styles, but always emphasizes melodic if quirky songwriting. Everything from noisy no wave to '80's new wave, classic rock to funk, math rock to melancholic pop gets a nod on each of their releases. EMF are an English alternative rock band from Cinderford, Gloucestershire, who came to prominence at the beginning of the 1990s. During their initial eight-year run, from 1989 to 1997, the band released three studio albums before a hiatus. ''People'' is an album by the American band Babe the Blue Ox, released in 1996. Like the band's other releases, the album title shares a name with a Barbra Streisand record. The album's first single was "Stand by Your Man". Babe promoted ''People'' by touring with Cibo Matto. Production ''People'' was produced by Ed Stasium. The band signed with RCA in order to obtain a budget that would allow them to make their version of a pop album. Babe's singer and guitar player Tim Thomas employed at least 15 different guitars during the making of the album. Homestead Records was a Long Island, New York-based sublabel of music distributor Dutch East India Trading that operated from 1983 to 1996. The label was known for not paying its artists and not spending any money on promotion. History The label was created and named by Sam Berger while he worked as the American Independent buyer at Dutch East India. Berger saw that many bands had already recorded tapes ready to be put out and just needed somebody to press them and distribute them. He came to Dutch East owner Barry Tenenbaum who agreed to the venture. Tennenbaum had started a mail-order business, called Lord Sitar Records, from his bedroom when he was a teenager, importing records by the Beatles and other artists from England that he could sell for a profit in the States.
