The BYU Cougars softball program began its first year in 2000. The current coach is Gordon Eakin who is in his 21st season coaching the BYU Cougars softball team. History The BYU Cougars softball team has been to 15 straight NCAA Tournament appearances and 16 total entering the 2020 season. Tom Holmoe
Thomas Allen Holmoe (born March 7, 1960) is an American college athletics administrator and former football player and coach. He has been the athletic director at Brigham Young University (BYU) since 2005. Holmoe played college football at BYU and then professionally in the National Football League (NFL) with the San Francisco 49ers from 1983 to 1989. He served as the head football coach at the University of California, Berkeley (Cal) from 1997 to 2001. Playing career College Holmoe starred in both basketball and football at Crescenta Valley High School in La Crescenta, California. He accepted a football scholarship to BYU, where he played as a cornerback and safety from 1978 to 1982. As a sophomore in 1980, he led the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) with seven interceptions, and went on to earn all-WAC honors as a senior in 1982. 2012 NCAA Division I Softball Tournament
The 2012 NCAA Division I softball tournament was held from May 18 through June 6, 2012 as the final part of the 2012 NCAA Division I softball season. The 64 NCAA Division I college softball teams were selected out of an eligible 284 teams on May 13, 2012. 30 teams were awarded an automatic bid as champions of their conference, and 34 teams were selected at-large by the NCAA Division I Softball Selection Committee. The tournament culminated with eight teams playing in the 2012 Women's College World Series at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. Alabama won the national title, defeating 2–1 in the best-of-three final to win the program's first national championship, and also the first softball title for any Southeastern Conference school. 2020 BYU Cougars Softball Team
The 2020 BYU Cougars softball team represented Brigham Young University in the 2020 NCAA Division I softball season. Gordon Eakin entered the year as head coach of the Cougars for an 18th consecutive season. 2020 was the seventh season for the Cougars as members of the WCC in softball. The Cougars entered 2020 having won their last 11 conference championships and as the favorites in the WCC. The Cougars entered 2015 having won their last 6 conference championships and as the favorites in the WCC. After sweeping a double header from Santa Clara on May 1, BYU won the 2015 WCC regular season title and became the first team to clinch a spot in the 2015 NCAA Division I softball tournament. The berth would be BYU's eleventh consecutive berth in the NCAA tournament. BYU played in the Eugene, Oregon softball region where they went 1–2, losing to North Dakota State in the second elimination game. The Cougars finished the season 40–14, 13–2 in conference play.
