BMW P66 Series
The BMW P66 Series is a prototype four-stroke 4.0-litre naturally aspirated V8 racing engine, developed and produced by BMW Motorsport in partnership with AC Schnitzer (reassembly, arrangement, preparation, maintenance, trackside support and tune-up) for Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters. BMW P66 Series was unveiled on 18 July 2011 alongside BMW M3 DTM (E92) machine at BMW Welt in Munich, Germany. The BMW P66 Series engine lifespan was only lasted seven years and later permanently retired in 2019 and later restored in 2022 in order to supply engines for BMW M Hybrid V8 LMDh machine. BMW P66 (2012-2016) The BMW P66 engine generates approx. 480 bhp with the air restrictor specified in the technical regulations. Four-stroke Engine
A four-stroke (also four-cycle) engine is an internal combustion (IC) engine in which the piston completes four separate strokes while turning the crankshaft. A stroke refers to the full travel of the piston along the cylinder, in either direction. The four separate strokes are termed: #Intake: Also known as induction or suction. This stroke of the piston begins at top dead center (T.D.C.) and ends at bottom dead center (B.D.C.). In this stroke the intake valve must be in the open position while the piston pulls an air-fuel mixture into the cylinder by producing vacuum pressure into the cylinder through its downward motion. LMDh
An LMDh (Le Mans Daytona h) is a type of sports prototype race car that will compete alongside Le Mans Hypercar entries in the Grand Touring Prototype (GTP) class of the IMSA SportsCar Championship from 2023. It also competes in the Hypercar class of the FIA World Endurance Championship. The LMDh ruleset was created jointly by the International Motor Sports Association (IMSA) and the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO). A restrictor plate or air restrictor is a device installed at the intake of an engine to limit its power. This kind of system is occasionally used in road vehicles (e.g., motorcycles) for insurance purposes, but mainly in automobile racing, to limit top speed to provide equal level of competition, and to lower costs; insurance purposes have also factored in for motorsports. Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters
The Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters (DTM, German Touring Car Masters) is a grand touring car series sanctioned by ITR e.V. who have been affiliated to the DMSB-FIA since 1984. The series is based in Germany, with rounds elsewhere in Europe. The series currently races a modified version of Group GT3 grand touring cars, replacing the silhouette later Class 1 touring cars of earlier years.
