BMW 3200 CS
The BMW 3200 CS was a sports touring car manufactured by BMW between January 1962 and September 1965. It was designed by Gruppo Bertone, Bertone and was introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show#1961, 1961 Frankfurt Motor Show. More than five hundred were built. The 3200 CS was the final variation on BMW's early postwar luxury platform that began with the BMW 501, 501 introduced in 1951. The styling of the 3200 CS influenced the 2000 CS coupe version of the BMW New Class, New Class and the later BMW E9, New Six coupes. It was the first BMW to feature the Hofmeister kink (which would become one of the company's trademark design elements). Concept and design In 1960, Helmut Werner Bonsch, BMW's marketing manager, discovered that the Pininfarina body for the Lancia Flaminia coupe would fit on the chassis of the BMW 3200L sedan without major modification. BMW 503
The BMW 503 is a two-door 2+2 gran turismo in both Coupé and Cabriolet form manufactured by German automaker BMW from 1956 until 1959. The company developed the 503 alongside the 507 roadster in an attempt to sell a significant number of luxury cars in the United States. The 503 and 507 cost about twice their projected price and did not recover their costs. During production from May 1956 to March 1959, 413 units of the 503 were built, 139 of which were Cabriolets. Even though it was a prestige model it resulted in heavy losses for BMW. BMW New Six
The BMW New Six (also known as the BMW E3) is a line of mid-size luxury sedans and grand tourer coupés produced by the German automaker BMW from 1968 to 1977. All models used the then-new M30 straight-6 engine. It marked BMW's return to the full-size luxury sedan market after a hiatus of 5 years and was introduced as a response to growing market segment dominated by Mercedes-Benz. It was important in establishing BMW's reputation as a maker of sporting, luxury sedans. The BMW New Six coupés (better known as the BMW E9) are built on a shortened version of the E3 platform. Herbert Quandt
Herbert Werner Quandt (22 June 1910 – 2 June 1982) was a German industrialist credited with having saved BMW when it was at the point of bankruptcy and made a huge profit in doing so. Quandt also oversaw the use at his family's factories during World War II of tens of thousands of slave labourers, many of which perished. Early life Herbert Quandt was born in Pritzwalk, the second son of Günther Quandt (1881–1954) and Antonie "Toni" Quandt (born Ewald). Antonie died of the Spanish flu in 1918.
