BAL Ubuntu Award
The Basketball Africa League Ubuntu Award is an annual Basketball Africa League (BAL) award that recognises a player who participated in the BAL and who best represents the league through his efforts in the community. The name "Ubuntu" is taken from the word in the Nguni languages, Nguni and Bantu languages, Bantu languages, symbolizes essential human virtues, such as compassion, respect and humanity. Along with giving out the individual award, the BAL donates $5,000 to a social organisation of choice by the winning player. Basketball Africa League
The Basketball Africa League (BAL) is Africa's premier men's basketball league. The league consists of twelve teams, each qualified through their domestic competition, similar to the format of the UEFA Champions League. The league is a joint effort between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and International Basketball Federation (FIBA) with sponsorship from Nike, Inc., Nike, Air Jordan and Pepsi. Its 2021 BAL season, inaugural season started with the qualifying rounds in October 2019 and the regular season in May 2021. The competition replaces FIBA's Africa Basketball League as the continent's top-tier league. BAL president, Amadou Gallo Fall, announced at the 2020 NBA All-Star Game Africa Luncheon in Chicago, that the season will tip off on 13 March. Nguni Languages
The Nguni languages are a group of closely related Bantu languages spoken in southern Africa by the Nguni peoples. Nguni languages include Xhosa, Zulu, Ndebele (sometimes referred to as "Northern Ndebele"), and Swazi. The appellation "Nguni" derives from the Nguni cattle type. ''Ngoni'' (see below) is an older, or a shifted, variant. The Bantu languages (English: , Proto-Bantu: *bantʊ̀) are a large family of languages spoken by the Bantu people of Central, Southern, Eastern africa and Southeast Africa. They form the largest branch of the Southern Bantoid languages. 2021 BAL Season
The 2021 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 1, was the inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Established as a joint effort between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and FIBA, the BAL is the highest tier continental league of Africa, replacing the FIBA Africa Basketball League. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in Africa, COVID-19 pandemic, the BAL held its inaugural season one year later as planned, with the season beginning in 2021. Initially the league planned to play in six venues in six countries; however, due to the pandemic the season was held in a bio-secure bubble in Kigali, Rwanda. Mouloudia Club d'Alger ( ar, نادي مولودية الجزائر), referred to as MC Alger or MCA for short, is an Algerian basketball team that was founded on 7 August 1921, as a division of the of MC Alger. 2022 BAL Season
The 2022 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 2, was the second season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 2 March 2022 and ended with the Finals on 28 May 2022. The group phase was played in the Dakar Arena in Dakar and the Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall in Cairo. The playoffs and finals were played in the BK Arena in Kigali for a second year in a row. Tunisian club US Monastir won the finals to win its first-ever BAL title, after defeating Angolan club Petro de Luanda in the 2022 BAL Finals. As winners, Monastir qualified for the 2023 FIBA Intercontinental Cup. Format On 9 December 2021, the BAL announced a new format for the season, with an expansion of the number of total games to 38. REG BBC
Rwanda Energy Group BBC, commonly known as REG, is a Rwandan basketball club based in Kigali. It is owned and named after the company Rwanda Energy Group Limited. It plays in the Rwanda Basketball League (RBL), the highest tier of basketball in Rwanda. REG has won the national championship thrice, in 2017, 2021 and 2022. Gerson Gonçalves
Gerson Henriques Gonçalves (born 29 March 1996), also known as Lukeny, is an Angolan basketball player. He plays for Petro de Luanda of the Angolan Basketball League since 2015 and is a two-time league MVP winner. Professional career Gonçalves played for Petro de Luanda in the 2015 FIBA Africa Clubs Champions Cup. He participated in the 2018–19 Africa Basketball League where he averaged 6.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3 assists per game. Gonçalves was named the MVP of the Angolan League in 2019, after winning his second title with Petro. Brice Eyaga Bidias
Brice Dieudonne Eyaga Bidias (born 26 November 1998) is a Cameroonian basketball player who plays for FAP and the Cameroon national basketball team. Club career After playing at the junior levels, Eyaga Bidias joined Condor of the Ligue de Basketball du Centre (LBC) in 2018. In the fall of 2019, Eyaga Bidias played with the Gabonese club Manga BB in the 2021 BAL qualification games. In the following year, he joined FAP and was on the roster for the inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League but did not appear in any game.
