Gerson Gonçalves
Gerson Henriques Gonçalves (born 29 March 1996), also known as Lukeny, is an Angolan basketball player for AMSB of the French LNB Pro B. He played nine seasons for Petro de Luanda of the Angolan Basketball League, where he was a two-time league MVP winner (2019 and 2022) and a BAL champion in 2024. Professional career Angola Gonçalves played for Petro de Luanda in the 2015 FIBA Africa Clubs Champions Cup. He participated in the 2018–19 Africa Basketball League where he averaged 6.6 points, 2.8 rebounds and 3 assists per game. Gonçalves was named the MVP of the Angolan League in 2019, after winning his second title with Petro. He repeated as most valuable player three years later, in 2022, after another national championship. He won his first BAL championship on June 1, 2024, after Petro defeated Al Ahly Ly in the final. The 2020–21 Angolan Basketball League was the 43rd season of the Angolan Basketball League, the highest premier basketball league in Angola. It was the first season after the previous season was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Petro de Luanda won its 14th championship. The 2023 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 3, was the third season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The season began on 11 March 2023 and ended on 27 May 2023. The 2023 BAL Playoffs, playoffs were played in the BK Arena in Kigali, which hosted the final stage for a third season in a row. 2021 BAL Season
The 2021 BAL season, also known as BAL Season 1, was the inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). Established as a joint effort between the National Basketball Association (NBA) and FIBA, the BAL is the highest tier continental league of Africa, replacing the FIBA Africa Basketball League. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the BAL held its inaugural season one year later as planned, with the season beginning in 2021. Initially the league planned to play in six venues in six countries; however, due to the pandemic the season was held in a bio-secure bubble in Kigali, Rwanda. The 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup was the 18th tournament of the FIBA Basketball World Cup for men's national basketball teams, held from 31 August to 15 September 2019. The 2014 FIBA Africa Under-18 Championship was the 16th FIBA U18 African Championship, played under the rules of FIBA, the world governing body for basketball, and the FIBA Africa thereof. The 2024 BAL final was the championship game of the 2024 BAL season, the third season of the Basketball Africa League (BAL), and the conclusion of the 2024 BAL playoffs, playoffs.
