Azerbaijan First Division
The Azerbaijan First Division ( az, Azərbaycan Birinci Divizionu) is the second highest professional division in Azerbaijani professional football (soccer), football. The division is run by Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan, AFFA. No teams are promoted to Azerbaijan Premier League, Premier Division. History Due to the dissolution of the Soviet Union, all Azerbaijan clubs of the former Soviet Top League, Soviet Premier Division and Soviet First League, Soviet First Division conformed a single Azerbaijan Premier League, which meant that the new second tier of Azerbaijan football would remain regionalized. For the first two seasons three regional groups conformed the second tier, until in 1994 the single table in use today began to be used. Competition format The First Division currently consists of 14 teams. All teams play each other two times. Media coverage CBC Sport currently own all the rights to broadcast the season's games on terrestrial TV.

The Azerbaijan Regional League ( az, Azərbaycan Region Liqası) is the third tier of association football, football in the Azerbaijani football league system. FC Baku ( az, "Bakı" Futbol Klubu) was an Azerbaijani football club based in Baku that has been an amateur club since 2016. Prior to that, Baku played 18 seasons in the Azerbaijan Premier League, winning the championship twice and the National Cup three times. The club ceased operations in 2018. Shamkir Football Club ( az, Şəmkir Futbol Klubu), is an Azerbaijani football club based in Şəmkir, that currently plays in the Azerbaijan First Division. The club is one of the most oldest and most successful clubs in Azerbaijan's football history with two Azerbaijan Premier League titles. MOIK Baku is an Azerbaijani football club, based in Baku. MOIK was originally built around the same concept of military sports club as CSKA Moscow, CSKA Sofia.
