Avenida Presidente Vargas
The Avenida Presidente Vargas is one of the main throughways in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The road was designed by Getúlio Vargas, who was president of Brazil at the time, while the city of Rio de Janeiro was still the nation's federal capital. The avenue connects the regions Leopoldina and Candelaria in downtown Rio de Janeiro (city) and is about 3.5 km long. Getúlio Vargas
Getúlio Dornelles Vargas (; 19 April 1882 – 24 August 1954) was a Brazilian lawyer and politician who served as the 14th and 17th president of Brazil, from 1930 to 1945 and from 1951 to 1954. Due to his long and controversial tenure as Brazil's provisional, constitutional, and dictatorial leader, he is considered by historians as the most influential Brazilian politician of the 20th century. Born in São Borja, Rio Grande do Sul, to a powerful local family, Vargas had a short stint in the Army before entering law school. He began his political career as district attorney, soon becoming a state deputy prior to a brief departure from politics. Central Do Brasil
Central do Brasil () is a major train station in the Brazilian city of Rio de Janeiro. It is the last stop of Rio's railway network, as well as a hub for connection with the city subway and a bus station. Central do Brasil was also a preeminent stop in the interstate Central do Brasil railroad, which linked Rio de Janeiro with São Paulo and Minas Gerais, though the railroad is now deactivated. Campo De Santana (park)
The Campo de Santana is a park located in the Praça da República in Rio de Janeiro, downtown Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The name of the plaza refers to the fact that it is located near the site where Proclamation of the Republic (Brazil), Brazil was declared a Republic in 1889. History During the Colonial Brazil, colonial period in Brazil, the area currently occupied by the park was an enormous swamp. Over time, the swamp was filled in and used as a public space. The region became known as "Campo da Cidade" or "Campo de São Domingos" and served as a divider between downtown Rio de Janeiro and the rural areas surrounding it.
