Australia–Pakistan Relations
Bilateral relations exist between Australia and Pakistan. Former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf having visited Australia in 2005, former Australian Prime Minister John Howard also visited Pakistan in 2005. In 2011, there were 30,000 Pakistani Australians. Overview The relations between the two countries have been friendly, with former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf having visited Australia in 2005 and the then Prime Minister of Australia, John Howard, having visited Pakistan in 2005 as well, following the 2005 Kashmir earthquake which had targeted the northern areas of Pakistan. He also announced 500 new scholarships for Pakistani students to study in Australia. The two countries in the past have collaborated in talks and actions on joint ventures relating to agriculture, dairy, livestock and mining. SEATO
The Southeast Asia Treaty Organization (SEATO) was an international organization for collective defense in Southeast Asia created by the Southeast Asia Collective Defense Treaty, or Manila Pact, signed in September 1954 in Manila, the Philippines. The formal institution of SEATO was established on 19 February 1955 at a meeting of treaty partners in Bangkok, Thailand. The organization's headquarters was also in Bangkok. Eight members joined the organization. Primarily created to block further communist gains in Southeast Asia, SEATO is generally considered a failure because internal conflict and dispute hindered general use of the SEATO military; however, SEATO-funded cultural and educational programs left longstanding effects in Southeast Asia. SEATO was dissolved on 30 June 1977 after many members lost interest and withdrew. Karachi To Melbourne Tram
The Karachi to Melbourne tram or the W-11 tram was Z class tram Z1 81 decorated by a team of professional Pakistani vehicle decorators, commissioned by the City of Melbourne for the 2006 Commonwealth Games. Origin of the name The name is based on the W-11 buses originally found in Karachi, Pakistan, which are a model of minibus famous for their entertainment value: decorated with lush designs and playing popular Pakistani or Indian music. Competition between buses has made these buses famous for their extravagant designs and entertainment. Australians in Pakistan comprise Australian citizens residing in Pakistan, which includes expatriates and immigrants, as well as their locally-born descendants. History Australian officials and military personnel were present in the region during the British Raj period, before the independence of Pakistan. Cricket
Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps.
