Austin Western Railroad
The Austin Western Railroad is a short-line railroad headquartered in Round Rock, Texas. AWRR is a subsidiary of Watco. AWRR operates a 103 mile (166 km) line from Fairland, Texas to an interchange with the Union Pacific at Elgin, Texas, Elgin. Tracks also continue from Elgin to an interchange with UPRR at Giddings, Texas, Giddings. There is an additional interchange with the UPRR at McNeil, Texas, McNeil. AWRR has rights to operate a 6.4 mile (10.3 km) branch from Fairland to Marble Falls, Texas, Marble Falls, and also 28 miles (45 km) from Fairland to Llano, Texas, Llano but these tracks have not seen revenue service in decades and the bridge is washed out at the Llano River, Little Llano River approximately six miles east of Llano. The Austin and Northwestern Railroad Historic District-Fairland to Llano is a historic district in Burnet County and Llano County, Texas, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. The listing included four contributing buildings, 43 contributing structures, and three contributing sites. It is located near Kingsland, Texas and runs roughly along railroad tracks from Fairland to Llano. It also was known as Southern Pacific Railroad—Fairland to Llano branch. The historic district is generally a linear strip along the railroad with a width of the right-of-way for the tracks. The three exceptions to this are the Fairland wye, the Antlers Hotel in Kingsland and the original depot in Llano, Texas. Burnet ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Burnet County, Texas, United States. The population was 6,436 at the 2020 census. Both the city and the county were named for David Gouverneur Burnet, the first (provisional) president of the Republic of Texas. He also served as vice president during the administration of Mirabeau B. Lamar. Geography Burnet is located one mile west of the divide between the Brazos and Colorado River watersheds near the center of Burnet County. Cedar Park, Texas
Cedar Park is a city and a major suburb of Austin in the state of Texas, approximately to the north-west of the center of Austin. According to the 2020 U.S. Census, the city's population was 77,595. History Before the arrival of European settlers in the 19th century, the Cedar Park area was inhabited by Native American tribes including the Tonkawa, the Lipan Apache, and the Comanche. A paleo-American archaeological site (named the Wilson-Leonard site) was discovered in Cedar Park in 1983 that showed evidence of continual habitation of the area since circa 5000 BC. In the mid-19th century the community was known as Running Brushy, named after a spring that formed the headwaters of a creek of the same name.
