Atlanta Knights
The Atlanta Knights were a minor league professional ice hockey team in the International Hockey League (1945–2001), International Hockey League from 1992 to 1996. The Knights were based in Atlanta, and played at the Omni Coliseum. In 1994 the Knights won the Turner Cup which was the IHL championship. The team became the Quebec Rafales from 1996 to 1998. History The Atlanta Knights was an IHL expansion team in 1992 as the top farm team of the National Hockey League, NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning. They won the Turner Cup in the 1993–94 season. Fort Wayne Komets
The Fort Wayne Komets are a minor league ice hockey team in the ECHL. They play their home games at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This team was previously a member of the Central Hockey League, the original International Hockey League, and the second International Hockey League. They have won four post-season championship titles in the original IHL in 1963, 1965, 1973, and 1993, four in the UHL/second IHL in 2003, 2008, 2009, and 2010, one in the CHL in 2012, and one in the ECHL in 2021. North American Soccer League (1968–1984)
The North American Soccer League (NASL) was the top-level major professional soccer league in the United States and Canada that operated from 1968 to 1984. It was the first soccer league to be successful on a national scale in the United States. The league final was called the Soccer Bowl from 1975 to 1983 and the Soccer Bowl Series in its final year, 1984. The league was headed by Commissioner Phil Woosnam from 1969 to 1983. The NASL laid the foundations for soccer (or association football) in the United States that helped lead to the country hosting the 1994 FIFA World Cup and the set-up of Major League Soccer (MLS) in 1996. Atlanta Chiefs
The Atlanta Chiefs were an American professional soccer team based in Atlanta, Georgia. The team competed in the National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) in 1967 and the North American Soccer League (NASL) from 1968 to 1973 and again from 1979 to 1981. For the 1973 season, the team played as the Atlanta Apollos. Founded in 1967 as a charter member of the NPSL, the club was the brainchild of Dick Cecil, then Vice President of the Atlanta Braves baseball franchise who was the Chiefs' owners. Cecil was intrigued with the 1966 FIFA World Cup in England and decided that a professional soccer team would add valuable events for Atlanta Stadium. From 1967 to 1972, the stadium would serve as the Chiefs' home field for all seasons except 1970, when the Chiefs played their home games at Tara Stadium. Mike Greenlay
Michael R. Greenlay (born September 15, 1968) is a Brazilian-born Canadian former ice hockey goaltender. Greenlay played two games for the Edmonton Oilers in 1989–90. He was a successful amateur player who spent most of his pro career in the minor leagues. Greenlay was born in Vitória, Brazil and raised in Calgary, Alberta. Greenlay was selected 189th overall by Edmonton in 1986 out of the Calgary AAA Midgets. He then played parts of three years at Lake Superior State. He was a member of the Lake Superior State Lakers 1988 NCAA Championship men's ice hockey team. Early in the 1988–89 season he left the Lakers to suit up for the WHL's Saskatoon Blades. Greenlay helped the squad reach the Memorial Cup final and was named the top goaltender at the tournament and an all-star. Apart from his two-game stint with Edmonton, Greenlay excelled for parts of two years with the AHL's Cape Breton Oilers.
