Athletics At The 1964 Summer Olympics – Men's 100 Metres
The men's 100 metres was the shortest of the men's track races in the Athletics at the 1964 Summer Olympics program in Tokyo, Japan. It was held at the Olympic Stadium on 14 and 15 October 1964. 76 athletes from 49 nations entered, with 3 not starting in the first round. Nations were limited to three athletes each, per rules in force since the 1930 Olympic Congress. The first two rounds were held on 14 October, with the semifinals and the final on the following day. In the final, American Bob Hayes tied the world record of 10.0 seconds and won the gold medal. Enrique Figuerola of Cuba and Harry Jerome of Canada tied the old Olympic record time. It was Cuba's first medal in the event; Canada earned its first men's 100 metres medal since 1928. National Stadium (Tokyo, 1958)
was a multi-purpose stadium in Kasumigaokamachi, Kasumigaoka, Shinjuku, Tokyo, Japan. The stadium served as the main stadium for the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as being the venue for track and field events at the 1964 Summer Olympics. The Japan national football team's home matches and major football club cup finals were held at the stadium. The stadium's official capacity was 57,363, but the seating capacity was only 48,000 seats. Demolition was completed in May 2015, and the site was redeveloped with a Japan National Stadium, new larger-capacity Olympic Stadium. The new stadium was the main venue for the 2020 Summer Olympics and 2020 Summer Paralympics, Paralympics. Jean-Louis Ravelomanantsoa
Jean-Louis Ravelomanantsoa (30 March 1943 – 27 September 2016) was a Malagasy athlete who specialized in the 100 metres. At the 1964 Summer Olympics he was eliminated in the heats in both 100 and 200 metres. At the 1968 Summer Olympics he was again eliminated in the heats of the 200 m, but reached the 100 metres final and placed eighth. At these Games he also set his career best time of 10.18 seconds in a tail wind of 2.0 m/s. This is the current Malagasy record. At the 1972 Summer Olympics he reached the semi-final of the 100 metres and was eliminated in the heats with the Madagascar 4 x 100 metres relay team. In 1975 he became the first of only two men to date to have won the Stawell Gift, Australia's most prestigious professional foot race, off the scratch mark. Kenneth Lawrence Powell (20 April 1940 – 11 December 2022), popularly known as "the Gentleman Sprinter", was an Indian track and field athlete from the state of Karnataka. He competed in the 1964 Olympics and the 1970 Asian Games. He was a recipient of the Government of India's Arjuna Award in 1965 and Government of Karnataka's Rajyotsava Award in 2018. Edvin Ozolin
Edvin Sigizmundovich Ozolin (russian: Эдвин Сигизмундович Озолин, born 12 February 1939) is a retired Soviet runner and athletics coach. He competed in various sprint events at the 1960 and 1964 Olympics and won a silver medal in the 4×100 m relay. He won four medals in the relay at the European championships in 1958 and 1966 and at the Summer Universiade in 1961 and 1965. Individually he won 200 m at the 1963 and 1965 Universiade. Ozolin was born in Leningrad. He took up athletics in 1955 and soon became the best Soviet sprinter of the 1960s, winning 16 national titles: in the 100 m (1959–1963), 200 m (1960–1961 and 1963), 4×100 m relay (1957, 1961, 1965–1966, and 1968) and 200 m hurdles (1963 and 1967). is a retired Japanese sprint runner and professional baseball player. He competed at the 1964 and 1968 Olympics in the 100 m and 4 × 100 m relay events, but was eliminated in semifinals on all occasions.
