Ashton North End Football Club was an England, English football (soccer), football club from Ashton-under-Lyne at the end of the 19th century. History Ashton North End was formed in 1886 after Junior club Smallshaw changed their name and moved into adult football. Its were said to be named North End due to playing in the North End of Ashton-u-Lyne. It first played Cup football in 1887-88 reaching the latter stages of the Manchester Junior Cup in the Cup's first season. They followed this up by winning the competition by beating local rivals Hurst Reserves in the Final the following season. Later it played in the Ashton & District League, finishing in the top half in 1891-92 in English football, 1891–92, and joined The Combination in 1894. Football League First Division
The Football League First Division was a division of the Football League in England from 1888 until 2004. It was the top division in the English football league system from the season 1888–89 until 1991–92, a century in which the First Division's winning club became English men's football champions. The First Division contained between 12 and 24 clubs, playing each other home and away in a double round robin. The competition was based on two points for a win from 1888 until the increase to three points for a win in 1981. After the creation of the Premier League, the name First Division was given to the second-tier division (from 1992). The name ceased to exist after the 2003–04 First Division season. James McBride (30 December 1873 – 25 May 1899) was a Scottish footballer, who played for Liverpool during the latter half of the 19th century. Life and playing career Born in Renton, Dunbartonshire, Scotland, McBride played for Renton Wanderers and Renton before being signed by Liverpool managers John McKenna and William Edward Barclay in 1892, a short time after he took part in a trial for the Scotland national team and made his sole appearance for the Scottish Football League XI (in the first fixture they played). McBride made his debut in Liverpool's first ever fixture, a friendly against Rotherham Town on 1 September 1892, which Liverpool won 7–1. He also played in their first ever competitive match, a Lancashire League fixture against Higher Walton two days later. He scored his first goal for Liverpool in this game, which the team won 8–0. Black is a racialized classification of people, usually a political and skin color-based category for specific populations with a mid to dark brown complexion. Arthur Wharton
Arthur Wharton (28 October 1865 – 12 December 1930) is widely considered to be the first black professional footballer in the world. Though not the first black player outright – the amateurs Robert Walker, of Queen's Park, and Scotland international player, Andrew Watson, predate him (possibly a professional before Arthur Wharton for Bootle F.C. in 1887) – Wharton may have been the first black professional and the first to play in the Football League.
