Paul Siraudin
Pierre-Paul-Désiré Siraudin (18 December 1812 – 8 September 1883) was a French playwright and librettist. He also used the pen names Paul de Siraudin de Sancy, Paul Siraudin de Sancy and M. Malperché. Biography He wrote many plays, mainly comedies and vaudevilles written in collaboration, notably with Alfred Delacour and Lambert-Thiboust. He also authored librettos for successful operettas and opéras-comiques, including ''La fille de Madame Angot'' (1872) in collaboration with Clairville and Victor Koning with music by Charles Lecocq. In 1860, Siraudin opened a confectionery shop — the Maison Siraudin — at the corner of the Rue de la Paix and the Place Vendôme. Jean-François Alfred Bayard (17 March 1796, Charolles, Saône-et-Loire – 20 February 1853, Paris) was a French playwright. He was the nephew of fellow playwright Eugène Scribe. Life As a law student and a lawyer's clerk, Bayard wrote with passion for the theatre and, after several attempts, had a great success at the Gymnase theatre, with ''la Reine de seize ans'' (1828, in-8°). One of the most fertile-minded and skilful vaudeville writers of his era, he made a close friendship with Eugène Scribe, often collaborating with him on plays and marrying his niece. Belonging to the school of Dancourt and Picard, he wrote with extreme ease, producing more than 200 plays for several theatres, sometimes alone, sometimes in collaboration. Michel Carré (20 October 1821, Besançon – 27 June 1872, Argenteuil) was a prolific French librettist. He went to Paris in 1840 intending to become a painter but took up writing instead. He wrote verse and plays before turning to writing libretti. He wrote the text for Charles Gounod's ''Mireille'' (1864) on his own, and collaborated with Eugène Cormon on Bizet's ''Les pêcheurs de perles''. However, the majority of his libretti were completed in tandem with Jules Barbier, with whom he wrote the libretti for numerous operas, including Camille Saint-Saëns's ''Le timbre d'argent'' (libretto written in 1864, first performed in 1877), Gounod's ''Faust'' (1859), '' Roméo et Juliette'' (1867), and Offenbach's ''Les contes d'Hoffmann'' (1881). As with the other libretti by Barbier and himself, these were adaptations of existing literary masterworks. The Théâtre du Palais-Royal () is a 750-seat Parisian theatre at 38 rue de Montpensier, located at the northwest corner of the Palais-Royal in the Galerie de Montpensier at its intersection with the Galerie de Beaujolais. Baron Anne-Honoré-Joseph Duveyrier, pen-name Mélesville (13 December 1787 in Paris – 7 November 1865 in Marly-le-Roi) was a French dramatist. The playwright Mélesville fils was his son. Charles Voirin, called Varin, (20 January 1798 (1er pluviôse an VI) – 24 April 1869) was a 19th-century French playwright. He also wrote under the pen names V. Warin and Victor. Biography Destined by his father to the profession of notary, Varin spent ten years at the bottom of a study, where he once came to Paris without money. Interested in writing plays, he spent a long time to break the circle of obstacles which opposed its inception.
