The Arnego River is a river in the province of Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain. It is a tributary of the Ulla. Etymology According to E. The rivers of Galicia form part of a dense hydrographical network in the Spanish autonomous community of Galicia and has been described by Otero Pedrayo as “the land of a thousand rivers”. Most rivers are not deep enough to be navigable, although small boats are sailed in the lower courses of the River Minho and several others, as well as at many of the dams. The rivers flowing into the Bay of Biscay (Cantabrian Sea) tend to be very short, and those flowing into the Atlantic Ocean are only a little longer, except for the Minho (340 km) and the Sil (225 km), whose lengths are several hundred kilometres. Ulla (river)
The Ulla (''río Ulla'' in Galician and Spanish) is a river in Galicia, Spain. Its source is sometimes given as Antas de Ulla and sometimes the neighbouring municipality of Monterroso. It flows to Ría de Arosa. Its basin is the largest in Galicia after the Minho River. Tributaries include the rivers Deza and Arnego. The river is also valued by archaeologists owing to the large number of artifacts, dating as far back as the Neolithic, discovered here. The outlet of the Ulla River and the mouth of the estuary, called Ría de Arousa, are the two sites where archaeologists have discovered remains consistently. Rock carvings have been discovered here. The Ulla River is also important because it is the river in the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula to produce a large number of watery hoards, which were discovered in its lower reaches and its mouth. Old European Hydronymy
Old European (german: Alteuropäisch) is the term used by Hans Krahe (1964) for the language of the oldest reconstructed stratum of European hydronymy (river names) in Central and Western Europe.Hans Krahe, ''Unsere ältesten Flussnamen'', Wiesbaden Edition Otto Harrassowiitz (1964)"Old European" in this sense is not to be confused with the term as used by Marija Gimbutas who applies it to non-Indo-European or pre-Indo-European Neolithic Europe. Proto-Indo-European Language
Proto-Indo-European (PIE) is the reconstructed common ancestor of the Indo-European language family. Its proposed features have been derived by linguistic reconstruction from documented Indo-European languages. No direct record of Proto-Indo-European exists. Far more work has gone into reconstructing PIE than any other proto-language, and it is the best understood of all proto-languages of its age.
