E. Bascuas, "Arnego", registered already as ''Arnego'' in 853, would derive from a form ''*Arnaikom'' or ''*Arnekom'', belonging to the
old European hydronymy, and derived from the
Indoeuropean root ''*er-'' 'flow, move'.
