Arnau Church
The Arnau Church (german: Kirche Arnau) of St. Catherine of Alexandria is a Brick Gothic church (building), church 8 km east of Kaliningrad near the Pregolya River and the Russian-Lithuanian border. It was built in the 14th century as a Catholic church in the East Prussian village of Arnau (modern Rodniki (Kaliningrad Oblast), Rodniki) and until recently contained more than 200 medieval frescoes from the 14th century. It became a Lutheran church after the Reformation and the frescoes were whitewashed, then uncovered in the early 20th century. The graveyard contains the tomb of Theodor von Schön. After 1945, when the Kaliningrad region became part of the Soviet Union, the church was used for grain storage. In 2003 a restoration campaign was launched, with the church building then belonging to the Kaliningrad History Museum, which used it for exhibitions and orthodox liturgy. In 2010 local legislators transferred the ownership of the church to the Russian Orthodox Church, an ...

Theodor Von Schön
Heinrich Theodor von Schön (20 January 1773 – 23 July 1856) was a Prussian statesman who assisted in the liberal reforms in Prussia during the Napoleonic Wars. Biography Schön was born in Schreitlauken, Tilsit district, East Prussia (now Šereitlaukis, Lithuania). He studied law and political science at the University of Königsberg. In 1793, he entered the Prussian government service and was rapidly promoted, serving as governor. In addition, Schön's memorandum on the abolition of serfdom was the basis of the law of emancipation. Fresco
Fresco (plural ''frescos'' or ''frescoes'') is a technique of mural painting executed upon freshly laid ("wet") lime plaster. Water is used as the vehicle for the dry-powder pigment to merge with the plaster, and with the setting of the plaster, the painting becomes an integral part of the wall. The word ''fresco'' ( it, affresco) is derived from the Italian adjective ''fresco'' meaning "fresh", and may thus be contrasted with fresco-secco or secco mural painting techniques, which are applied to dried plaster, to supplement painting in fresco. The fresco technique has been employed since antiquity and is closely associated with Italian Renaissance painting. The word ''fresco'' is commonly and inaccurately used in English to refer to any wall painting regardless of the plaster technology or binding medium. This, in part, contributes to a misconception that the most geographically and temporally common wall painting technology was the painting into wet lime plaster. Even in appar ...

East Prussia
East Prussia ; german: Ostpreißen, label=Low Prussian; pl, Prusy Wschodnie; lt, Rytų Prūsija was a province of the Kingdom of Prussia from 1773 to 1829 and again from 1878 (with the Kingdom itself being part of the German Empire from 1871); following World War I it formed part of the Weimar Republic's Free State of Prussia, until 1945. After the conquest the indigenous Balts were gradually converted to Christianity. Because of Germanization and colonisation over the following centuries, Germans became the dominant ethnic group, while Masurians and Lithuanians formed minorities.
