Armenian Fencing Federation
The Armenian Fencing Federation ( hy, Հայաստանի սուսերամարտի ֆեդերացիա), also known as the Fencing Federation of Armenia, is the regulating body of fencing in Armenia, governed by the Armenian Olympic Committee. The headquarters of the federation is located in Yerevan. History The Federation is currently led by president Armen Grigoryan. The Federation oversees the training of fencing specialists and operates several fencing clubs throughout the country. Armenian fencing athletes participate in various European and international level fencing competitions, including in the European Fencing Championships. Fencing
Fencing is a group of three related combat sports. The three disciplines in modern fencing are the foil, the épée, and the sabre (also ''saber''); winning points are made through the weapon's contact with an opponent. A fourth discipline, singlestick, appeared in the 1904 Olympics but was dropped after that and is not a part of modern fencing. Fencing was one of the first sports to be played in the Olympics. Based on the traditional skills of swordsmanship, the modern sport arose at the end of the 19th century, with the Italian school having modified the historical European martial art of classical fencing, and the French school later refining the Italian system. The Armenian Olympic Committee (ARMNOC) ( hy, Հայաստանի ազգային օլիմպիական կոմիտե, translit=Hayastani Olimpiakan Komite) is responsible for Armenia's participation in the Olympic Games. European Fencing Championships
The European Fencing Championships is an annual top-level European fencing competition organized by the European Fencing Confederation. History The first competition bearing the name of "European Fencing Championships" was held in Paris in 1921. The International Fencing Federation (FIE) comprised only European federations at the time, with the exception of the United States. In 1936, on the 25th anniversary of the FIE and at the request of the Italian federation, the FIE congress decided to open the European Championships to all countries and granted retroactive recognition of the European Championships as World Championships. After 1937 the FIE focused on the organisation of the World Fencing Championships. The ''Fédération Internationale d'Escrime'' ( en, International Fencing Federation), commonly known by the acronym FIE, is the international governing body of Olympic fencing. Today, its head office is at the Maison du Sport International in Lausanne, Switzerland. The FIE is composed of 157 national federations, each of which is recognized by its country's Olympic Committee as the sole representative of Olympic-style fencing in that country. Since its inception in 1913, there have been 14 presidents. European Fencing Confederation
The European Fencing Confederation (EFC; french: Confédération européenne d'escrime, CEE) is an international body created in 1991, charged with the promotion and development of fencing in Europe. It organises the European Fencing Championships annually at several levels: cadets (U17), junior (U20), under 23, seniors and veterans (more than 40 years old). The Confederation comprises all national European fencing federations, plus that of Israel, and is under the authority of FIE. In reaction to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, the EFC agreed with the FIE to ban Russian and Belarusian fencers, and reallocated competitions that were due to be held in Russia and Belarus.
