Armenia is Our Home, also known as the Our Home is Armenia Party ( hy, Մեր տունը Հայաստանն է կուսակցություն, translit=Mer tuny Hayastann e kusakts’ut’yun), is an Armenian political alliance between the Alliance Party and the Union of Armenians of Russia organization. History The Armenia is Our Home Party was first founded in 2004 and led by Vachakan Chibukhchyan. It was then de-registered in 2016 but re-registered in 2018, following the Velvet Revolution. However, Chibukhchyan is no longer associated with the party. Its current leader is Ara Abramyan, the president of the Union of Armenians in Russia. The party announced that they would participate in the 2021 Armenian parliamentary elections as a political alliance with the Alliance Party. The leader of the Alliance Party, Tigran Urikhanyan, was nominated by the alliance to be the candidate for prime minister. Ara Abramyan
Ara Abrahamyan (russian: Ара Аршавирович Абрамян; born 15 April 1957 in Malishka, Yeghegnadzor District, Armenia) ( hy, Արա Աբրահամյան) is a prominent philanthropist, social activist, and businessmen. He was born in Malishka, a village in Vayots Dzor Region, Armenia, in a family of physicians. He attended Yerevan State Agricultural University and gained a degree in economics. Alliance Party (Armenia)
The Alliance Party ( hy, Դաշինք կուսակցություն, translit=Dashink’ kusakts’ut’yun), also known as the Alliance of Progressive Centrists, is an Armenian political party. It was founded in 2015 and is currently led by . History Tigran Urikhanyan had served in the National Assembly following the 2012 Armenian parliamentary election as a candidate running with the Prosperous Armenia party. Urikhanyan subsequently left Prosperous Armenia and founded the Alliance Party in 2015. He was nominated as Chairman of the party. 2018 Armenian Revolution
The 2018 Armenian Revolution, most commonly known in Armenia as #MerzhirSerzhin ( hy, ՄերժիրՍերժին, meaning "#RejectSerzh"), was a series of anti-government protests in Armenia from April to May 2018 staged by various political and civil groups led by a member of the Armenian parliament — Nikol Pashinyan (head of the Civil Contract party). Protests and marches took place initially in response to Serzh Sargsyan's third consecutive term as the most powerful figure in the government of Armenia and later against the Republican Party-controlled government in general. 2021 Armenian Parliamentary Election
Snap parliamentary elections were held in Armenia on 20 June 2021. The elections had initially been scheduled for 9 December 2023, but were called earlier due to a political crisis following the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War and an alleged attempted coup in February 2021. Nikol Pashinyan, who had served as Prime Minister since 2018, resigned in April 2021 and subsequently the seventh National Assembly was dissolved on 10 May. Pashinyan continued to serve as acting prime minister until the elections were held. Following the election, Pashinyan's Civil Contract party received 54% of the vote and won 71 seats, a majority in the 107-seat parliament.
