Crawford County, Iowa
Crawford County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 16,525. Its county seat is Denison. The county was named for William Harris Crawford, U.S. senator from Georgia and United States Secretary of the Treasury. History In January 1851, the Iowa Legislature authorized the creation of 50 additional counties in the state. Due to its lack of inhabitants, the designated Crawford County area was attached to Shelby County for purposes of revenue, taxation, and judicial matters. In 1855 there were sufficient settlers, who petitioned for separation from Shelby. This was granted, and a county governing structure was established. The county as then designated did not include its present western townships. In 1865, four eastern townships of Monona County were separated from that county and incorporated into Crawford County's boundary. Carroll County, Iowa
Carroll County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 20,760. Its county seat is Carroll. The county is named in honor of Charles Carroll of Carrollton, signer of the Declaration of Independence. History Carroll County was formed on January 15, 1851, from sections of Pottawattamie County. It was named after Charles Carroll of Carrollton, Maryland, the only Roman Catholic and longest-living signer of the Declaration of Independence. In 1855, the county government was established in Carrollton and in 1858, the first courthouse was built. In 1869, the seat was moved to Carroll City (today Carroll) which was centrally located and connected to the Chicago and North Western Transportation Company. The courthouse was destroyed in 1886 by fire. The present courthouse was erected in 1965. However the courthouse is set to go under construction in the near future. Rolling Hills Conference (Iowa)
The Rolling Hills Conference was a small-school high school athletic conference in west central Iowa. All of the schools in the conference competed in Class 1A, the smallest in the state. Final members History The Rolling Hills Conference was organized in the late 1970s. Original members were Walnut, Elk Horn–Kimballton, Anita, Cumberland-Massena, Bridgewater–Fontanelle, Adair–Casey, Orient-Macksburg, and Exira. They were soon joined by Shelby-Tennant and Carson-Macedonia. Carson-Macedonia left for the Corner Conference in 1986. Anita and Cumberland-Massena merged to become CAM in 1989. Shelby-Tennant left when they merged with AvoHa of Avoca in 1991. Bridgewater–Fontanelle did likewise when they merged with Greenfield in 1993. Arcadia is a city in Carroll County, Iowa, United States. The population was 525 at the 2020 census. History Arcadia was laid out in 1871. It was named for the region of Arcadia, in Greece. The date of incorporation of Arcadia was 1881. According of the census carried out in the year before, Arcadia had 450 inhabitants. The original name of the town was ''"Tip Top"'', chosen for its location on the Missouri-Mississippi Divide and it being Iowa's topographically most elevated town. Rolling Valley Conference
The Rolling Valley Conference is a high school athletic conference in west central Iowa. The league began play in the 2013–14 season. Members include five former members of the Western Valley Activities Conference, five former members of the Rolling Hills Conference, and one former member of the West Central Activities Conference. Schools Former schools History Five members of the conference came from the Western Valley Activities Conference, which was formed in 2008 by the merger of the Maple Valley Conference and the Boyer Valley Conference. All five members of the Rolling Valley were members of the Boyer Valley Conference before the merger. The Boyer Valley league dated to the 1960s and included as many as twelve schools at one time in its history. Carroll Community School District is a public school district headquartered in Carroll, Iowa. The district, entirely within Carroll County, serves Carroll, Breda, Dedham, Halbur, Lidderdale, and Willey, as well as most of Templeton. The mascot of the Carroll Community School District is the Carroll Tigers. History In 1974, the Carroll district, the Manning Community School District, and the Eden Township School District and the Templeton Independent School District decided that the Eden and Templeton districts would be divided between the Carroll and Manning districts; Carroll got about 89% and 75%, respectively, of the land of the Templeton and Eden districts, with the Manning district taking the remainders.
