Appellate Division (Bangladesh)
The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh is the appellate court in Bangladesh. The Appellate Division is the final court of appeal for all civil and criminal cases, with appellate review authority over judgements of the High Court Division. The Court is composed of eight judges, led by its Chief Justice, Hasan Foez Siddique. History The Appellate Division is Bangladesh's highest court, and thus its court of final appeal. Its earliest predecessor was the Supreme Court of Pakistan which, following partition of India introduced in 1947, had the distinctionary powers of being the highest Courts for all cases. Ramna Thana
Ramna Thana ( bn, রমনা থানা) is a police jurisdiction in central Dhaka. It is a historic colonial neighborhood. Once the site of Mughal gardens, it developed into an institutional area during British rule in the late 19th century. It became a focal point for Dhaka's modernization in the 1960s. It was the scene of many tumultuous events that ushered the independence of Bangladesh in 1971. The Ramna Thana falls under the jurisdiction of the Dhaka South City Corporation. The Ramna Thana area hosts the Ramna Park (also known as Ramna Green) which is the largest park in Dhaka, seen being akin to Calcutta's Maidan, London's Hyde Park and New York's Central Park. The University of Chittagong ( bn, চট্টগ্রাম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়, caṭṭagram bishwabidyalay) is a public research university with multidisciplinary faculties situated across a 1754-acres hilly landmass in Fatehpur Union of Hathazari Upazila, north of Chittagong city of Bangladesh. Jahangir Hossain
Jahangir Hossain is a judge of the Appellate Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court.. Early life He was born on 31 December 1959 in Noakhali District, East Pakistan, Pakistan. He finished his LL.B and Masters in Commerce from the University of Dhaka. Career In 1986, Hossain started worked as an advocate at the District and Session Judge's Court. In 1991, he started working as an advocate at the Bangladesh High Court. He worked as a special public prosecutor in Dhaka. Fakhruddin Ahmed (born 1 May 1940) is a Bangladeshi economist, civil servant, and a former governor of the Bangladesh Bank, the country's central bank. On 12 January 2007, he was appointed Chief Adviser (Head of the Government) of the non-party interim Caretaker government, during the 2006–2008 Bangladeshi political crisis. He continued in that post for nearly two years, a longer than usual time, but new elections were held on 29 December 2008, and the Awami League assumed power based on its majority. Iajuddin Ahmed
Iajuddin Ahmed (1 February 193110 December 2012) was the President of Bangladesh, serving from 6 September 2002 until 12 February 2009. From late October 2006 to January 2007, he also served as Chief Advisor of the caretaker government. From October 2006 to early 2008, his responsibilities as president included the Defense Ministry of the caretaker government. With a doctorate in soil science, Ahmed became a full professor at the University of Dhaka and chairman of the department. Borhanuddin is a judge on the Appellate Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court. Early life Borhanuddin was born on 28 February 1957. He completed his law degree from the University of Chittagong. Obaidul Hassan
Obaidul Hassan is a judge on the Appellate Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court. Early life Hassan was born on 11 January 1959 in Mohanganj Upazila, Netrokona District, East Pakistan, Pakistan. Zillur Rahman
Mohammed Zillur Rahman (9 March 1929 – 20 March 2013) was the President of Bangladesh from 2009 to 2013. He was also a senior presidium member of the Awami League. He is the third president of Bangladesh, after Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Ziaur Rahman, to die in office, while being the first to die of natural causes.
