Ants Vaino
Ants Vaino (15 February 1940 – 15 June 1971) was an Estonian racing driver. He was born in Vändra, Pärnu County. He began his motorsport career in 1965, coached by Arkadi Nõmmeste. In 1969 and 1970 he won silver medal at Soviet Union championships for Formula 4 FIA Formula 4, also called FIA F4, is an open-wheel racing car category intended for junior drivers. There is no global championship, but rather individual nations or regions can host their own championships in compliance with a universal set of r ... class. He is multiple-times Estonian champion in different racing disciplines. He died on 15 June 1971 in Borovaya circuit in Belarus, due to injuries after formula accident. Vändra (german: Fennern) is a borough ( et, alev) in Põhja-Pärnumaa Parish in Pärnu County, Estonia. It has a population of 2,191 and an area of 3.28 km². The category was created by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA)—the International sanctioning and administrative body for motorsport—as an entry-level category for young drivers, bridging the gap between karting and Formula 3.
