Antonio Hayes
Antonio Lamar Hayes (born December 9, 1977) is an American politician who represents the 40th legislative district of Baltimore in the Maryland Senate. He previously represented the 40th district in the Maryland House of Delegates from 2015 to 2019. Background Hayes was born in Baltimore, Maryland. He was raised by his grandmother and grew up in Baltimore. He attended Frostburg State University, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in political science in 2000. Since 2010, Hayes has served as the Chief of Staff of the Baltimore City Department of Social Services. In the legislature In 2014, Hayes defeated two-term incumbent Shawn Z. Maryland's 7th Congressional District
Maryland's 7th congressional district of the United States House of Representatives encompasses just over half of the city of Baltimore, most of the majority-black precincts of Baltimore County, and the majority of Howard County. The district was created following the census of 1790, which gave Maryland one additional representative in the House. It was abolished in 1843, but was restored in 1950 as a west Baltimore district. It has been drawn as a majority-African American district since 1973. Democrat Kweisi Mfume is the current representative, winning a special election on April 28, 2020, to finish the term of Elijah Cummings, who died in October 2019. A special election was held on April 28, 2020, after a February 4, 2020 primary, to fill the remainder of the term in the United States House of Representatives for in the 116th U.S. Congress. Elijah Cummings, the incumbent representative, died in office on October 17, 2019. On October 28, 2019, Governor Larry Hogan announced the dates for the special primary on February 4, 2020, and the special general election on April 28, 2020, to coincide with the primary voting for the November 2020 general election.
