Antischism
Antischism was an American crust punk band formed in 1988 in Columbia, South Carolina. Antischism broke up and then reformed in Austin, Texas, as Initial State. After Initial State's breakup in 1994, Byrd and Mueller went on to play in , with Byrd also starting Guyana Punch Line and eventually Thank God. Cooper moved to Savannah, Georgia, and played in Damad (now Kylesa), In/Humanity, Karst, and Chronicle A/D. Crust Punk
Crust punk (also known as crust or stenchcore) is a form of music influenced by English punk rock and extreme metal. The style, which evolved in the early 1980s in England, often has songs with dark and pessimistic lyrics that linger on political and social ills. The term "crust" was coined by Hellbastard on their 1986 ''Ripper Crust'' demo.Glasper 2009, 185 Crust is partly defined by its " bassy" and "dirty" sound. It is often played at a fast tempo with occasional slow sections. Vocals are usually raspy screams, but can also be grunted/growled. Crust punk takes cues from the anarcho-punk of Crass and Discharge and the heavy metal of bands like Venom, Trouble, Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Black Sabbath and Motörhead. Guyana Punch Line
Guyana Punch Line was an American hardcore punk band from Columbia, South Carolina, active from 1998 until 2003. History Guyana Punch Line was formed of members who had previously played in In/Humanity, Antischism and .fuckingcom. Evolving past In/Humanity's tongue-in-cheek professed " emo violence" genre and lyrical jabs, Guyana Punch Line worked to bring Chris Bickel's "Smashism" ideals to the masses through heavy, hard confusion music. The band embarked on what they called a "campaign to scare the hell out of middle America", including an infamous "Walk for Smashism" parade. The band name is a pun on the notorious Jonestown incident. Hardcore punk (also known as simply hardcore) is a punk rock music genre and subculture that originated in the late 1970s. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock. Its roots can be traced to earlier punk scenes in San Francisco and Punk rock in California, Southern California which arose as a reaction against the still predominant History of the hippie movement, hippie cultural climate of the time. Powerviolence
Powerviolence (sometimes written as power violence) is an extremely dissonant and fast subgenre of hardcore punk which is closely related to thrashcore and grindcore. In contrast with grindcore, which is a "crossover" idiom containing musical aspects of heavy metal, powerviolence is just an augmentation of the most challenging qualities of hardcore punk. Like its predecessors, it is usually socio-politically charged and iconoclastic. History Siege are considered the pioneers of powerviolence. Kylesa
Kylesa is an American heavy metal band that was formed in Savannah, Georgia. Their music incorporates experimentalism with heavy riffs, drop-tuned guitars and elements of psychedelic rock. The group was established in 2001 by the former members of Damad, with the addition of guitar player Laura Pleasants who is from North Carolina. The band has since undergone line up changes; the remaining original members are Phillip Cope and Laura Pleasants. In 2006, the band added two drummers (Carl McGinley of Unpersons, from Savannah, and Jeff Porter). Eric Hernandez (of Capsule, from Miami) joined in 2008 to replace Porter. The dual drum tracks are often panned strongly to the right and left. In April 2016, the band announced in a Facebook post that they would be going on an indefinite hiatus.
