Guyana Punch Line
Guyana Punch Line was an American hardcore punk band from Columbia, South Carolina, active from 1998 until 2003. History Guyana Punch Line was formed of members who had previously played in In/Humanity, Antischism and .fuckingcom. Evolving past In/Humanity's tongue-in-cheek professed " emo violence" genre and lyrical jabs, Guyana Punch Line worked to bring Chris Bickel's "Smashism" ideals to the masses through heavy, hard confusion music. The band embarked on what they called a "campaign to scare the hell out of middle America", including an infamous "Walk for Smashism" parade. The band name is a pun on the notorious Jonestown incident. The band has been defunct since the release of ''Direkt Aktion'', with members going on to form and/or work on bands such as Confederate Fagg. It is generally faster, harder, and more aggressive than other forms of punk rock. Thrashcore
Thrashcore (also known as fastcore) is a fast-tempo subgenre of hardcore punk that emerged in the early 1980s. Thrashcore is essentially sped-up hardcore, often using blast beats. Songs can be very brief, and thrashcore is in many ways a less dissonant, less metallic forerunner of grindcore. The genre is sometimes associated with the skateboarder subculture. Powerviolence
Powerviolence (sometimes written as power violence) is an extremely dissonant and fast subgenre of hardcore punk which is closely related to thrashcore and grindcore. In contrast with grindcore, which is a "crossover" idiom containing musical aspects of heavy metal, powerviolence is just an augmentation of the most challenging qualities of hardcore punk. Like its predecessors, it is usually socio-politically charged and iconoclastic. History Siege are considered the pioneers of powerviolence. Additionally, Infest have received credit for having an early impact on the genre. The microgenre solidified into its commonly recognized form in the early 1990s. This is best exemplified by bands such as Man Is the Bastard, Crossed Out, Neanderthal, No Comment and Capitalist Casualties. Antischism
Antischism was an American crust punk band formed in 1988 in Columbia, South Carolina. Antischism broke up and then reformed in Austin, Texas, as Initial State. After Initial State's breakup in 1994, Byrd and Mueller went on to play in , with Byrd also starting Guyana Punch Line and eventually Thank God. Jonestown
The Peoples Temple Agricultural Project, better known by its informal name "Jonestown", was a remote settlement in Guyana established by the Peoples Temple, a U.S.–based cult under the leadership of Jim Jones. Jonestown became internationally infamous when, on November 18, 1978, a total of 909 people died at the settlement, at the nearby airstrip in Port Kaituma, and at a Temple-run building in Georgetown, Guyana's capital city. The name of the settlement became synonymous with the incidents at those locations. In total, 918 individuals died in Jonestown, all but two from apparent cyanide poisoning, a significant number of whom were injected against their will, in an event termed "revolutionary suicide" by Jones and some Peoples Temple members on an audio tape of the event, and in prior recorded discussions.
