Anne Taylor (netball Administrator)
Evelyn Anne Taylor is a former New Zealand netball administrator, coach and umpire. From 1978 to 1987 she was president of Netball New Zealand and between 1989 and 1999 she was vice-president and president of the International Netball Federation. Early life Taylor attended Waitaki Girls' High School in Oamaru, the largest town in the North Otago region, on the South Island of New Zealand. She obtained a diploma in physical education at the University of Otago in 1958, where she captained the university netball club and was on the university sports council. After graduating, she taught physical education at the Hamilton Girls' High School in Hamilton on the North Island, and volunteered at Hamilton YWCA. Dawn Jones (netball)
Myrlene Dawn Jones (born 1940) is a New Zealand netball umpire who spent 15 years as New Zealand's top-ranked umpire and officiated at four netball world championships. She was also a netball administrator, a school principal and a justice of the peace. Early life Jones was born in Ōtāhuhu, a suburb of Auckland. Her father was a wrestler and also coached rugby in Papatoetoe, near Auckland. She attended the Auckland Girls' Grammar School in Newton, where one of her teachers fostered a love of mathematics, at a time when girls were not encouraged to become mathematicians. Jones graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1942. She would go on to work at Papatoetoe High School as a maths teacher. Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order. Halberg Awards
The Halberg Awards are a set of awards, given annually since 1949, recognising New Zealand's top sporting achievements. They are named for New Zealand former middle-distance runner and Olympic gold medalist Sir Murray Halberg. The initial award was handed out in 1949, and continued until 1960 under the auspices of the ''NZ Sportsman'' magazine. Since 1963, the awards have been organised by the Halberg Disability Sport Foundation, and the number of award categories has grown to eight. Bowls
Bowls, also known as lawn bowls or lawn bowling, is a sport in which the objective is to roll biased balls so that they stop close to a smaller ball called a "jack" or "kitty". The 1987 World Netball Championships was the seventh edition of the INF Netball World Cup held in Glasgow, Scotland. This quadrennial premier event in international netball featured 17 teams, and included the debut of Cook Islands. New Zealand National Netball Team
The New Zealand national netball team, commonly known as the Silver Ferns, represent New Zealand in international netball. The team take their nickname from the Silver Tree Fern (''Cyathea dealbata''), which is an emblem for many New Zealand sports teams. The Silver Ferns were formed in 1938 as a representative New Zealand team to tour Australia. To date, they have been one of the most dominant national netball teams in the world, along with Australia, and have a winning record against most other netball nations. The Silver Ferns are current world champions and ranked second in the INF World Rankings, behind Australia.
