Jane Annabelle Apsion (born 17 September 1960 in Hammersmith, London) is an English actress best known for playing Monica Gallagher in the hit television comedy-drama '' Shameless'' (2004-2013), Joy Wilton in '' Soldier Soldier'' (1991-1995), and Violet Buckle in ''Call the Midwife'' (2015-Present). Career Apart from ''Shameless'', Apsion is also known for her portrayals of Betty in '' My Good Friend'', Beverly in '' The Lakes'', Patricia Hillman in ''Coronation Street'', and Mrs. Beech in Michelle Magorian's '' Goodnight Mister Tom''. Hammersmith is a district of West London, England, southwest of Charing Cross. Jack the Ripper was an unidentified serial killer active in and around the impoverished Whitechapel district of London, England, in the autumn of 1888. In both criminal case files and the contemporaneous journalistic accounts, the killer was called the Whitechapel Murderer and Leather Apron. Attacks ascribed to Jack the Ripper typically involved female prostitutes who lived and worked in the slums of the East End of London. Their throats were cut prior to abdominal mutilations.
