Ankeny Centennial High School
Ankeny Centennial High School (ACHS) is a public high school in Ankeny, Iowa, United States, serving grades 10 through 12 and opened in 2013. It is one of two high schools in the Ankeny Community School District. History Ankeny Centennial opened in 2013, covering the northern part of the school district. ACHS relieved Ankeny High School of overcrowding as the district's second high school; both schools had approximately 990 students in the 2013–14 school year. This was the first instance within a period of forty-year period where a school district in the state of Iowa had its number of high schools increase from one to two. Ankeny (, ) is a city in Polk County, Iowa, United States and a suburb of the state capital of Des Moines, as part of the Des Moines-West Des Moines, IA metropolitan statistical area. As of the 2020 census, the population of Ankeny was 67,887, making it the seventh largest city in the state. It is one of the fastest-growing cities in Iowa. Currently, the city's incorporated area totals 29.14 square miles. In 2008, Ankeny was recognized as one of the top ten towns for families by ''Family Circle''. The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union (IGHSAU) is the governing body for girls' junior and senior high school sports in the U.S. state of Iowa. The association promotes and regulates interscholastic sports among its member schools. Though its counterpart for boys sports in Iowa, the Iowa High School Athletic Association, is a full-time member of the National Federation of State High School Associations, the IGHSAU is only an affiliate member. Justin Phongsavanh ( lo, ຈັສຕິນ ພົງສະຫວັນ) (born May 19, 1997) is an American Paralympic athlete who specializes in javelin throw. He represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Career Phongsavanh made his international debut for the United States at the 2019 Parapan American Games where he won a gold medal in the javelin throw F54 event. In June 2021, during the U.S. Paralympic Team Trials for Track and Field, Phongsavanh set the javelin throw world record with a distance of 33.29 meters. He represented the United States at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in the javelin throw F54 event and won a bronze medal. Personal life Phongsavah is of mixed Laotian and Caucasian ancestry. His biological parents were incarcerated when he was two years old and after spending time in the Iowa foster care system he was adopted by Tamera Shinn and raised in Ankeny, IA. In July 1849, Barlow Granger began the paper in an abandoned log cabin by the junction of the Des Moines and Raccoon River. Riley Moss (born March 3, 2000) is an American football cornerback for the Iowa Hawkeyes. Early life and high school career Moss grew up in Ankeny, Iowa and attended Ankeny Centennial High School, where he played football and ran track. He originally committed to play college football at North Dakota State entering his senior season. As a senior, Moss caught six passes for 167 and a touchdown on offense and had 29 tackles and an interception on defense. Moss decommitted from North Dakota State and committed to play at Iowa after receiving a late offer. College career Moss joined the Iowa Hawkeyes as a blue-shirt recruit and was awarded a scholarship after the end of his freshman season. He was named the Big Ten Conference freshman of the week after intercepting two passes against Minnesota. KCCI (channel 8) is a television station in Des Moines, Iowa, United States, affiliated with CBS. Owned by Hearst Television, the station maintains studios on Ninth Street in downtown Des Moines and a transmitter in Alleman. History KCCI started on the air on July 31, 1955, as KRNT-TV, the third television station in Des Moines and the ninth in Iowa. It was owned by the Cowles family, publishers of the still-operating ''Des Moines Register'' and the now-defunct ''Des Moines Tribune'' newspapers, along with KRNT radio (AM 1350 and the original KRNT-FM at 104.5, which went dark). The calls stood for the papers' nickname in central Iowa, "the R 'n T".
