Animecon (Netherlands)
AnimeCon (Netherlands) is a yearly Dutch anime convention. The festival is officially called Anime but is called AnimeCon by visitors. AnimeCon is a non-profit organization organized by the J-POP Foundation ( nl, Stichting Promotie Japanse Popcultuur). AnimeCon is a 52-hour non-stop fan convention; featuring Japanese movies (animation and cinematic), video games, competitions, concerts, theatre performances, workshops, presentations and the selling of art and merchandise. The doors open early in the afternoon on Friday and stay open until the end of the afternoon on Sunday. AnimeCon is a fan convention for people who enjoy the elements of Japanese common popular culture and who want to find out more. An anime convention is an event or gathering with a primary focus on anime, manga and Japanese culture. Commonly, anime conventions are multi-day events hosted at convention centers, hotels or college campuses. They feature a wide variety of activities and panels, with a larger number of attendees participating in cosplay than most other types of fan conventions. Anime conventions are also used as a vehicle for industry, in which studios, distributors, and publishers represent their anime related releases. They also take place in multiple different countries, such as Japan, South Korea, India, Indonesia, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Australia, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Spain. Animecon (Finland)
Animecon is anime convention in Finland, held annually over a weekend in varying Finnish cities. Animecon was organized as a joint project between anime clubs throughout Finland, facilitated by the communications hub Suomen Animeunioni ''(The Finnish Anime Union)''. The convention was first established in 1999 as an outgrowth of the science fiction anime fandom of the sci-fi convention Finncon, expanded into a separate event about anime in general. Animecon and Finncon have been held in conjunction, sharing premises but no events; they even often held separate opening ceremonies. In 2012 Animecon was held at the city of Kuopio for a first time and the convention has remained there since then. The two drew some 5200 visitors in 2004 and 5500 in 2006, peaking at 5000 on Saturday during the three-day event. After the 2007 conventions, an organizer cited the number of visitors as an estimated 7000.
