Angelo Masci
Angelo Masci (Arbëresh language, Arbërisht: Ëngjëll Mashi; 1758–1822) was an Italian Arbëreshë people, Arbëresh jurist and scholar. Life Born in Santa Sofia d'Epiro on 7 December 1758 to Noè and Vittoria Bugliari he first studied under Stefano Baffa. At the age of twelve, Masci moved to Naples to continue his studies there under the supervision of his uncle Giuseppe (Zep) Bugliari, chaplain of the Royal Macedonian Battalion of Naples. An alumnus of the faculty of law of the university of Naples, in 1809 he was appointed chief prosecutor of the court of cassation of Province of Catanzaro, Catanzaro and in 1810 royal commissioner of northern Calabria and Basilicata. Works Masci's first published work was ''Esame politico-legale de dritti, e delle prerogative de'Baroni del regno di Napoli'' (1792), a treatise on the legal system in regard to the baronial privileges in the Kingdom of Naples. Arbëresh Language
Arbëresh (, also known as ''Arbërisht'', ''Arbreshi'', ''Arbërishtja'' or ''Tarbrisht'') is the variety of Albanian spoken by the Arbëreshë people of Italy. It is derived from the Albanian Tosk spoken in Albania, in Epirus and is also spoken by the Arvanites, with endonym Arvanitika. History Between the 11th and 14th centuries, Albanian-speaking mercenaries from the areas of Albania, Epirus and now Greece, were often recruited by the Franks, Aragonese, Italians and Byzantines. The invasion of the Balkans by the Ottoman Turks in the 15th century caused large waves of emigration from the Balkans to southern Italy. Arbëreshë People
The Arbëreshë (; sq, Arbëreshët e Italisë; it, Albanesi d'Italia), also known as Albanians of Italy or Italo-Albanians, are an Albanian ethnolinguistic group in Southern Italy, mostly concentrated in scattered villages in the region of Calabria and, to a lesser extent, in the regions of Abruzzo, Apulia, Basilicata, Campania, Molise and Sicily. They are the descendants of Albanian refugees who fled Albania, and later some from Morea between the 14th and the 18th centuries following the Ottoman conquest of the Balkans. San Demetrio Corone (Arbëreshë: ''Shën Mitri'') is a town and municipality in the Calabria region of Italy, at an altitude of 521 meters and with 3,387 inhabitants. The town is among the most important cultural centers of the Albanian communities in Italy and preserves the Albanian language, the Byzantine rites, customs, culture and ethnic identity of its origin. Conrad Malte-Brun
Conrad Malte-Brun (12 August 177514 December 1826), born Malthe Conrad Bruun, and sometimes referred to simply as Malte-Brun, was a Dano- French geographer and journalist. His second son, Victor Adolphe Malte-Brun, was also a geographer. Today he is perhaps best remembered for coining the name for the geographic region Oceania (French ''Océanie'') around 1812, he also coined the name Indo-China. Biography Born in Thisted to an administrator of Danish crown lands, Malte-Brun was originally destined for a career as a pastor, but chose instead to attend classes at the University of Copenhagen, and became a supporter of the French Revolution and an activist in favor of freedom of the press. Giuseppe Crispi
Giuseppe Crispi ( Arbërisht: Zef Krispi; 1781–1859) was an Italian philologist and priest of Arbëresh descent. One of the major figures of the Arbëresh community of Sicily of that era, he wrote a number of works on the Albanian language. His nephew, Francesco was the Prime Minister of Italy in the late 19th century. Life Born on 30 July 1781 in Palazzo Adriano to the Crispi family, he studied at the seminary of Palermo, under Nicola Chetta. Francesco, son of his brother Tommaso, served as Prime Minister of Italy in 1887–91 and 1893-6. On 26 May 1808 Giuseppe Crispi was ordained as an Eastern Catholic priest. He was a professor of ancient Greek literature at the University of Palermo, a rector of the seminary of Palermo and a ritual bishop of Lampsaco from 1836, when he succeeded Francesco Chiarchiaro, also from Palazzo Adriano, to his death on 10 September 1859.
