Andrew Townsley
Richard Andrew John Townsley (born 24 June 1952 in Castleford, Yorkshire, England) is an English first-class cricketer, who played two first-class matches for Yorkshire County Cricket Club in 1974 and 1975, and five List A one day matches in 1975. Townsley also played for the Yorkshire Second XI from 1972 to 1975, and the Yorkshire Under-25s from 1972 to 1976. A left-handed batsman, Townsley scored 22 first-class runs, with his best score being 12 against Sussex, at an average of 5.50, and he took one catch. Castleford
Castleford is a town within the City of Wakefield, West Yorkshire, England. It had a population of 45,106 at a 2021 population estimate. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. Cricket is a bat-and-ball game played between two teams of eleven players on a field at the centre of which is a pitch with a wicket at each end, each comprising two bails balanced on three stumps. The batting side scores runs by striking the ball bowled at one of the wickets with the bat and then running between the wickets, while the bowling and fielding side tries to prevent this (by preventing the ball from leaving the field, and getting the ball to either wicket) and dismiss each batter (so they are "out").
