Andrew Merrington
Andrew Merrington (born 27 November 1978) is an Australian rules footballer. Merrington played TAC Cup football for the Calder Cannons, but was not immediately drafted and went to play for St Bernard's Old Collegians in the VAFA. Following a year at St Bernard's, he was recruited to the AFL by the Carlton Football Club in the 1999 National Draft, Merrington was considered a future key position/ ruckman prospect. However he only played 18 games with the Blues until the end of the 2003 season, where he was delisted after spending much time with either the Carlton reserves team or the Northern Bullants in the VFL, rather than the senior Carlton team. After being delisted he was recruited by East Perth in the WAFL. He immediately cemented himself a place in the side usually playing centre half forward, and was rewarded with state selection for Western Australia in his first year. Merrington won the 2005 F.D. Calder Cannons
The Calder Cannons is an Australian rules football club from Melbourne, Australia. The club competes in the NAB League, the Victorian Statewide Under-18s competition, and fields squads in the Under-15s, Under-16s and Under-18s. The club was formed in 1995 after the need for two more metropolitan clubs. The geographic catchment area for the club is the north western suburbs of Melbourne extending to cover the Macedon Ranges area. East Perth Football Club
The East Perth Football Club, nicknamed the Royals, is an Australian rules football club based in Leederville, Western Australia, current playing in the West Australian Football League (WAFL). Formed in 1902 as the Union Football Club, the club entered the WAFL in 1906, changing its name to East Perth. It won its first premiership in 1919, part of a streak of five consecutive premierships. Overall, the club has won 17 premierships, most recently in 2002. Gary Merrington
Gary Merrington (born 19 November 1946) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Footscray in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Merrington was recruited locally, from Footscray District Football League club Braybrook, and also played on the alternate day for Sunshine YCW. He played as a defender for most of his career, but also spent some time on the wing. Merrington was a member of Footscray's 1967 and 1970 night premierships. After retiring he continued serving the club as a recruiter and was their Football Manager during the 1990s. The Western Bulldogs are a professional Australian rules football team that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL), the sport's premier competition. In Australian sport, the best and fairest award recognises the player(s) adjudged to have had the best performance in a game or over a season for a given sporting club or competition. The awards are sometimes dependent on not receiving a suspension for misconduct or breaching the rules during that season. In the Australian Football League (AFL), the Brownlow Medal is awarded to the player who, provided he has not been suspended during the season, receives the most votes from the umpires for being the Fairest and Best player in games during the home and away season. In each game, the umpires award three votes to the player they judge to be the best afield in that game, two votes to the second-best player and one vote to the third-best player. The votes are counted at a gala function on the Monday preceding the Grand Final.
