Anastasiya Taranova-Potapova (russian: Анастасия Таранова-Потапова; born 6 September 1985) is a Russian triple jumper. She won the gold medals at the 2003 European Athletics Junior Championships, the 2004 World Junior Championships and the 2009 European Athletics Indoor Championships. Her personal best jump is 14.40 metres, achieved in June 2009 in Chania. She has 14.68 metres on the indoor track, achieved at the 2009 European Indoor Championships in Turin. Triple Jump
The triple jump, sometimes referred to as the hop, step and jump or the hop, skip and jump, is a track and field event, similar to the long jump. As a group, the two events are referred to as the "horizontal jumps". The competitor runs down the track and performs a hop, a bound and then a jump into the sand pit. The triple jump was inspired by the ancient Olympic Games and has been a modern Olympics event since the Games' inception in 1896. 2003 European Athletics Junior Championships
The 2003 European Athletics Junior Championships was held in Tampere, Finland from 23 to 27 July 2003. A total of 44 events were contested; 22 by men and 22 by women. Germany had the biggest medal haul with nine golds and a total of 26, closely followed by Russia (also 9 golds but 24 medals in total). Great Britain was third with 17 medals, while Romania was fourth with ten medals. The long jump is a track and field event in which athletes combine speed, strength and agility in an attempt to leap as far as possible from a takeoff point. Along with the triple jump, the two events that measure jumping for distance as a group are referred to as the "horizontal jumps".
