Ana Derșidan-Ene-Pascu
Ana Derșidan-Ene-Pascu (22 September 1944 – 6 April 2022) was a Romanian fencer and sport leader. She won a bronze medal in the women's team foil events at the 1968 and 1972 Summer Olympics. Biography The daughter of the vice-president of the Romanian Table Tennis Federation, Pascu was fascinated as a child by elite sport. Her first sport idols were table tennis players Angelica Rozeanu and Sari Szasz, who were then at the peak of their careers. When Pascu's father took a position at the Romanian Fencing Federation, she transferred her interests to the sport, which was practiced at the Athenaeum of Bucharest, and whose athletes spoke French. At the age of eleven, she began to take fencing lessons with Italian master Angelo Pellegrini. Future champion Maria Vicol featured amongst his other pupils. Suzana Ardeleanu
Suzana Ardeleanu ( Suzana Tași; born 8 March 1946) is a Romanian fencer. She competed in the women's individual and team foil events at the 1980 Summer Olympics. Career Ardeleanu learnt fencing at a local club under coach Alexandru Csipler. She transferred in 1964 along with Ecaterina Iencic and Ileana Gyulai to CSA Steaua București, which are related to the football team Steaua Bucharest, where she was trained by Andrei Vâlcea. Along with Olga Szabo, Maria Vicol, Ana Ene-Derșidan and Ileana Gyulai, she became team world champion at the 1969 World Fencing Championships in Havana. Maria Vicol (née Taitiș, 17 October 1935 – 13 March 2015) was a Romanian foil fencer, Olympic bronze medalist in 1960 and an Olympic team bronze medalist in 1968. Career Vicol took up fencing at Progresul Bucharest, where she was trained by Angelo Pellegrini. In April 1956 she won a silver medal at the Junior World Championships in Luxembourg, bringing Romania its first fencing medal in a major competition. Angelo Pellegrini
Angelo Pellegrini (1904 – 1991) was a writer of books about the pleasures of growing and making your own food and wine, and about the Italian immigrant experience. He was also a professor of English Literature at the University of Washington. Pellegrini's family immigrated in 1913 from Tuscany to McCleary, Washington, where his father worked for a sawmill. His first book was titled ''Argumentation and Public Discussion'', written in 1936 with Brents Stirling. In 1948, he wrote ''The Unprejudiced Palate'', an important work in the history of food literature that remains in print. In 1946, ''Sunset'' published Pellegrini's recipe for pesto, likely the first major publication of a pesto recipe in the United States. Romanian Athenaeum
The Romanian Athenaeum ( ro, Ateneul Român) is a concert hall in the center of Bucharest, Romania, and a landmark of the Romanian capital city. Opened in 1888, the ornate, domed, circular building is the city's most prestigious concert hall and home of the "George Enescu" Philharmonic and of the George Enescu Festival. Romanian Fencing Federation
The Romanian Fencing Federation ( ro, Federația Română de Scrimă) is the governing body for the sport of fencing in Romania. Affiliated to the Federation Internationale d'Escrime since 1914, it is a member of the European Fencing Confederation and of the Romanian Olympic and Sports Committee. According to the National Institute of Statistics, the federation had 1238 fencers in 2011. Its budget, granted by the Ministry of Youth and Sport, grew from 2.5 million lei in 2012 to 3 million lei in 2014. As of 2014, 45 clubs are affiliated to the federation. One third of them are situated in Bucharest; the most important are CS Dinamo, financed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and CSA Steaua, run by the Ministry of National Defense.
