Viktor Sidyak
Viktor Alexandrovich Sidyak (russian: Ви́ктор Алекса́ндрович Сидя́к; born 24 November 1943) is a Russian former left-handed sabre fencer, a pupil of Mark Rakita and David Tyshler. He was known for his aggressive style and the "one-and-a-half tempo attack". Biography Sidyak was born in Anzhero-Sudzhensk in Kemerovo Oblast, but spent most of his childhood in Donetsk. He started fencing at age fifteen. In the 1960s, while training in Lvov, he represented Ukraine on the internal Soviet circuit. He was part of the winning team at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City. The World Fencing Championships is an annual competition in fencing organized by the Fédération Internationale d'Escrime (FIE; ''International Fencing Federation'' in English). Contestants may participate in Foil (fencing), foil, épée, and Sabre (fencing), sabre events. History The FIE first organized an international fencing championship in Paris, France in 1921. The competition in its early years was named the European Championships (''Championnats d'Europe''), and the initial participants were members of the fencing federations of the FIE. Rolf Erik Sören Edling (born 30 November 1943) is a retired Swedish épée fencer. He competed at the 1968, 1972, 1976 and 1980 Olympics and won a team gold medal in 1976. His best individual result was fourth place in 1980. Edling was born in India, where his father was worked for the ASEA company. He then moved to Sweden and started fencing at a boarding school in Sigtuna. Between 1969 and 1978 he won ten medals at the world championships, including five gold medals.
