Amber Grid
AB Amber Grid is the main natural gas transmission operator in Lithuania. It was established in 2013 by spin-off of gas transmission operations from the gas company Lietuvos Dujos. Amber Grid owns all main pipelines in Lithuania, including natural gas compressor stations and natural gas metering and distribution stations. Amber Grid is a member of the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG). In April 2022, President of Lithuania Gitanas Nausėda announced that Lithuanian national gas transmission operator Amber Grid and Lithuania has completely stopped purchasing the Russian gas and the transmission system has been operating without Russian gas imports since the beginning of April with no intention to receive the Russian gas in the future via Minsk–Kaliningrad Interconnection. The European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) is an association of Europe's transmission system operators (TSOs). ENTSOG was created on 1 December 2009 by 31 TSOs from 21 European countries. Creation of the ENTSOG was initiated by the adoption of the European Union third legislative package on the gas and electricity markets. It aims to promote the completion and cross-border trade for gas on the European internal market, and development of the European natural gas transmission network. Lithuania–Latvia Interconnection ( lt, Lietuvos-Latvijos dujotiekis, lv, Lietuvas–Latvijas gāzes vada starpsavienojums) is a natural gas pipeline which connects Lithuania and Latvia. Gas Interconnection Poland–Lithuania (GIPL) is a gas pipeline between Poland and Lithuania. The pipeline was commissioned and started commercial operation on 1 May 2022. Minsk–Kaliningrad Interconnection is a natural gas pipeline interconnection between Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia, Lithuania and Belarus. Currently it is the only pipeline supplying natural gas to Kaliningrad Oblast. Lithuania has a contract with Gazprom on gas transit to Kaliningrad via pipeline until 2025. Gitanas Nausėda (born 19 May 1964) is a Lithuanian economist, politician and banker who is serving as the ninth and incumbent President of Lithuania since 2019. He was previously director of monetary policy at the Bank of Lithuania from 1996 until 2000 and chief economist to the chairman of SEB bankas from 2008 until 2018. Nausėda ran as an independent in the 2019 presidential election, which he won with over 66% of the vote in the runoff.
