Alonso De Arellano
Alonso de Arellano was a 16th-century Spanish explorer who commanded one ship that was part of the fleet that re-discovered the Philippines after the Magellan and López de Villalobos expeditions. Biography Arellano was captain of the ''San Lucas'', piloted by Lope Martín, one of four ships in a fleet commanded by Miguel López de Legazpi. The fleet sailed from Mexico on 21 November 1564, but the ''San Lucas'' became separated from the rest on 1 December. Arellano continued onto the Philippines. He discovered a number of islands in January 1565, including Lib, Truk, Pulap, and Ngulu, before sailing back to Mexico, becoming the first navigator to establish the "Urdaneta's Route" in the Pacific Ocean. Andrés de Urdaneta was part of Legazpi's fleet, who had also separated from the group and discovered the same path afterwards. Ngulu Atoll is a coral atoll of three islands in the Caroline Islands in the Pacific Ocean, and forms a legislative district in Yap State in the Federated States of Micronesia. Andrés De Urdaneta
Andrés de Urdaneta (1508 – June 3, 1568) was a maritime explorer for the Spanish Empire of Basque heritage, who became an Augustinian friar. At the age of seventeen, he accompanied the Loaísa expedition to the Spice Islands where he spent more than eight years. Around 1540 he settled in New Spain and became an Augustinian monk in 1552. At the request of Philip II he joined the Legazpi expedition for a return to the Philippines. In 1565, Urdaneta discovered and plotted an easterly route across the Pacific Ocean, from the Philippines to Acapulco in the Viceroyalty of New Spain. The route made it practical for Spain to colonize the Philippines and was used as the Manila galleon trade route for more than two hundred years. Pulap or Pollap is an atoll with a total area (including the lagoon) of , of which is emergent land, consisting of three islands, Pollap in the north, Tamatam in the south, and Fanadik at the western fringe of the reef.
