Alois Strohmayer
Alois Strohmayer (1822-1890) was an Austrian composer during the Romantic era and a member of the celebrated Schrammel Quartet. He was the father of Anton Strohmayer, a famous Austrian guitarist. Biography For much of the 20th century, many of Alois Strohmayer's 200+ compositions remained undiscovered, however they were re-discovered by a Viennese professor in 1971. Alois Strohmayer was born in Vienna in 1822 and began writing music at the age of just seventeen. Starting off writing only violin pieces, he soon turned to folk music ensembles with well-known musicians such as Georg Danzer and the Schrammel brothers in the form of Schrammelmusik. Josef Lanner
Joseph Franz Karl Lanner (12 April 1801 – 14 April 1843) was an Austrian dance music composer and dance orchestra conductor. He is best remembered as one of the earliest Viennese composers to reform the waltz from a simple peasant dance to something that even the highest society could enjoy, either as an accompaniment to the dance, or for the music's own sake. He was just as famous as his friend and musical rival Johann Strauss I, who was better known outside of Austria in their day because of his concert tours abroad, in particular, to France and England. Lanner had a lesser-known son, August Lanner, who was just as musically gifted and prodigious as his father, but whose budding career was cut short by his early death at age 20. His daughter Katharina became a well known international ballet dancer, settling in London where she became an influential choreographer and teacher. Johann Baptist Strauss I (; also Johann Strauss Sr., the Elder, the Father; 14 March 1804 – 25 September 1849) was an Austrian composer of the Romantic Period. He was famous for his light music, namely waltzes, polkas, and galops, which he popularized alongside Joseph Lanner, thereby setting the foundations for his sons—Johann, Josef and Eduard—to carry on his musical dynasty.
