Alnes Lighthouse
Alnes lighthouse was established in 1852 to guide fishing boats safely to the harbor of the small fishing community of Alnes on Godøy island on the west coast of Norway. It is located on the north side of Godøy island in the municipality of Giske in Møre og Romsdal county, about northwest of Leitebakk. History The current lighthouse was built in 1876 and is still in operation with a few modifications. The lighthouse was automated in 1982 and is now owned by the municipality of Giske. The galley and the tower are open for tourists from May through October, and the old keeper's house has a café and an exhibition hall where artwork from local artists are displayed. There is also a small historical museum inside the lighthouse tower. Only a 30-minute drive from Ålesund, it is easily accessible for visitors and is one of the most visited lighthouses in Norway. Alnes
Alnes is a small village in Giske Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located on the (isolated) north side of the island of Godøya, about northwest of the village of Leitebakk. The rest of the island's population is located on the southern half of the island, separated from Alnes by a large mountain. Alnes is accessible through a tunnel through the mountainous center part of the island. The predominant feature of the village is the Alnes Lighthouse which was built in 1876. The lighthouse is still in operation and it is accessible for tourists. It also houses an art gallery and a small historical museum. Giske
Giske is an island municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The municipality lies north-northwest of the town of Ålesund in the traditional district of Sunnmøre. The municipal centre is Valderhaugstrand. Other population centres include the villages of Roald (on Vigra island) and Alnes and Leitebakk (both on Godøya island). Candela
The candela ( or ; symbol: cd) is the unit of luminous intensity in the International System of Units (SI). It measures luminous power per unit solid angle emitted by a light source in a particular direction. Lighthouses In Norway
The coast of Norway is 100,915 km long and there have been a total of 212 lighthouses along it, but no more than 154 have ever been operational at the same time. The first, Lindesnes Lighthouse, opened in 1655; the newest Lighthouse, Anda, was finished in 1932. The first Lighthouses were private operations, but in 1821 the government made the Channel and Harbor Inspector responsible for Lighthouses in Norway. A dedicated Lighthouse Administration was set up in 1841. The Lighthouses are today mostly automated and since 1974, run by the Norwegian Coastal Administration. Two lightvessels had been operated along the Norwegian coast.
