Leitebakk or Leitebakken is a small village on the island of Godøya in Giske Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The village is located about southeast of the isolated village of Alnes, where Alnes Lighthouse is located. Leitebakk is located at the end of the undersea Godøy Tunnel that connects the island to the neighboring island of Giske. Godøy Chapel is located just south of the village of Leitebakk. Møre og Romsdal (; en, Møre and Romsdal) is a county in the northernmost part of Western Norway. It borders the counties of Trøndelag, Innlandet, and Vestland. The county administration is located in the town of Molde, while Ålesund is the largest town. Alnes Lighthouse
Alnes lighthouse was established in 1852 to guide fishing boats safely to the harbor of the small fishing community of Alnes on Godøy island on the west coast of Norway. It is located on the north side of Godøy island in the municipality of Giske in Møre og Romsdal county, about northwest of Leitebakk. History The current lighthouse was built in 1876 and is still in operation with a few modifications. The lighthouse was automated in 1982 and is now owned by the municipality of Giske. The galley and the tower are open for tourists from May through October, and the old keeper's house has a café and an exhibition hall where artwork from local artists are displayed. There is also a small historical museum inside the lighthouse tower. Only a 30-minute drive from Ålesund, it is easily accessible for visitors and is one of the most visited lighthouses in Norway. Giske Municipality
Giske is an island municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. The municipality lies north-northwest of the town of Ålesund in the traditional district of Sunnmøre. The municipal centre is Valderhaugstrand. Other population centres include the villages of Roald (on Vigra island) and Alnes and Leitebakk (both on Godøya island). The municipality is part of the Ålesund Region. The municipality is the 349th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Alnes
Alnes is a small village in Giske Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located on the (isolated) north side of the island of Godøya, about northwest of the village of Leitebakk. The rest of the island's population is located on the southern half of the island, separated from Alnes by a large mountain. Alnes is accessible through a tunnel through the mountainous center part of the island. The predominant feature of the village is the Alnes Lighthouse which was built in 1876. The lighthouse is still in operation and it is accessible for tourists. It also houses an art gallery and a small historical museum. Godøy Chapel
Godøy Chapel ( no, Godøy kapell) is a chapel of the Church of Norway in Sunndal Municipality in Møre og Romsdal county, Norway. It is located on the small island of Godøy. It is an annex chapel in the Giske parish which is part of the Nordre Sunnmøre prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Møre. The stone chapel was built in 1953 using plans drawn up by the architect O.S. Solheim. The chapel seats about 200 people. History In 1902, a small prayer house was built on the island of Godøy. In 1953, the old building was torn down and a new prayer house was constructed. In 1979, the building was expanded using plans by Olav Solheim. After the addition, the prayer house was upgraded to the status of annex chapel for the parish. In both 2001 and again in 2008 the chapel was enlarged. The chapel is owned by a foundation and it is rented by the parish council for church activities. It is also used for other purposes.
