Alliance High School (Ohio)
Alliance High School is a public high school in Alliance, Ohio, United States. It is the only high school in the Alliance City School District. Athletic teams compete as the Alliance Aviators in the Ohio High School Athletic Association as a member of the Eastern Buckeye Conference. Athletics Sports teams are known as the Aviators for the airplane production plants in the area during the 1920s. The school has its own A-7 Corsair II outside the building. Alliance, Ohio
Alliance is a city in eastern Stark County, Ohio, United States. With a small district lying in adjacent Mahoning County, the city is approximately northeast of Canton, southwest of Youngstown and southeast of Cleveland. The population was 21,672 as of the 2020 census. Alliance was established in 1854 by combining three smaller communities. The city was a manufacturing and railroad hub for much of the 20th century and is also associated with the state flower of Ohio, the scarlet carnation, and is known as "The Carnation City". Ohio High School Athletic Association
The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) is the governing body of athletic programs for junior and senior high schools in the state of Ohio. The OHSAA governs eligibility of student athletes, resolves disputes, organizes levels of competition by divisional separation of schools according to attendance population, and conducts state championship competitions in all the OHSAA-sanctioned sports. Membership There are approximately 820 member high schools and 850 more schools in the 7th-8th grade division of the OHSAA. Most public and private high schools in Ohio belong to the OHSAA. Gertrude Alice Kay (January 30, 1884 – December 17, 1939) was an American children's literature illustrator and author best known for her work in fairy tales and beginner novels. She was active during America's Golden Age of Illustration. Biography Gertrude Alice Kay was born on January 30, 1884, in Alliance, Ohio. She was the second of three daughters born to Charles Young Kay and Gertrude Cantine Kay, named after her mother. Her older sister Mary was born two years prior in 1882, but her younger sister Carolyn wouldn't be born until 1900. Her father was a hardware salesman who supported his daughter's creativity, encouraging her to secure an arts education. Gertrude moved to Philadelphia after graduating from Alliance High School in 1902. She attended the Philadelphia School of Design for Women and Drexel University before officially graduating from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. Len Dawson
Leonard Ray Dawson (June 20, 1935 – August 24, 2022) was an American football quarterback who played in the National Football League (NFL) and American Football League (AFL) for 19 seasons, primarily with the Kansas City Chiefs franchise. After playing college football at Purdue, Dawson began his professional career with the NFL in 1957, spending three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers and two with the Cleveland Browns. He left the NFL in 1962 to sign with the AFL's Chiefs (then known as the Dallas Texans), where he spent the last 14 seasons of his career, and rejoined the NFL after the AFL–NFL merger. In the AFL, Dawson led the league in completion percentage seven times, passer rating six times, and passing touchdowns four times. Eastern Buckeye Conference
The Eastern Buckeye Conference is an OHSAA athletic league that began competition in the 2018–19 school year. The following are members: Members League history The idea for the Eastern Buckeye Conference began in December 2015 when seven of the eight Northeastern Buckeye Conference members (Alliance, Canton South, Carrollton, Marlington, Minverva, Salem, and West Branch) came together to discuss creating a new league that didn't include Louisville.
