Allenwood G.F.C. is a Gaelic football club based in Allenwood, County Kildare, Republic of Ireland. Because it is located in County Kildare, the club competes in the County Kildare GAA board league and cup system. Allenwood, County Kildare
Allenwood () is a small Irish village in County Kildare situated on the Grand Canal. Allenwood is located about from Dublin and halfway between Rathangan and Clane in north County Kildare. According to the CSO, Allenwood had a total population of 981 inhabitants as of the 2016 census, an increase from 845 in the 2011 census. The main road through Allenwood is the R403 and the village is within of both the M4 (to the north) and M7 (to the south) motorways. Businesses in the area are centred on the crossroads, and consist of several shops, including a Spar, a costcutter, a barbers and a public house. There are two primary schools that were amalgamated into one in 2017, Allenwood G.N.S built in 1957 and Allenwood B.N.S built in 1929. Gaelic football ( ga, Peil Ghaelach; short name '), commonly known as simply Gaelic, GAA or Football is an Irish team sport. It is played between two teams of 15 players on a rectangular grass pitch. The objective of the sport is to score by kicking or punching the ball into the other team's goals (3 points) or between two upright posts above the goals and over a crossbar above the ground (1 point). Players advance the football up the field with a combination of carrying, bouncing, kicking, hand-passing, and soloing (dropping the ball and then toe-kicking the ball upward into the hands). In the game, two types of scores are possible: points and goals. A point is awarded for kicking or hand-passing the ball over the crossbar , signalled by the umpire raising a white flag. The Kildare Senior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition organised by Kildare GAA between the top clubs in County Kildare, Ireland. Johnny Doyle (Gaelic Footballer)
Johnny Doyle is a Gaelic footballer who plays for Allenwood and, formerly, at senior level for the Kildare county team. Playing career Doyle has won one Agricultural Colleges All-Ireland. His talents are very versatile and he has won an All-Ireland Cross Country Athletic College medal and won several boxing medals. Doyle also more recently has taken up a managerial role with the Maynooth Sigerson first team. Club Doyle plays his club football for Allenwood and was awarded Kildare Footballer of the Year in 2004 and 2005. He won the Kildare Senior Football Championship with Allenwood in 2004. The Kildare Intermediate Football Championship, or Kildare I.F.C., is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by mid-tier Kildare GAA clubs since 1928. The winners currently receive the Hugh Campion Cup in honour of the Suncroft official who served as County Board Chairman from 1972 to 1981. The Kildare Junior Football Championship is an annual Gaelic football competition contested by lower-tier Kildare GAA clubs. The winning club plays in the Kildare Intermediate Football Championship in the following year. As of the 2022 season there is an overall Junior Championship winner as well as a Junior A winner (competed for between the bottom four teams in the Junior Championship Round Robin Group 2). There have been various iterations of the competition, which started in 1906 as the secondary competition to the Kildare Senior Football Championship. In 1928 a Kildare Intermediate Football Championship was started for middle tier teams with the Junior Championship ranking below that.
