Allanaquoich is a locality on Mar Lodge Estate, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. ''Allanaquoich'' is little more than a farm house now although it once could have been described as a Hamlet (place), hamlet. It is locate(streetmap)on a slight rise to the East of the Quoich Water. A table in ''Dixon & Green (1995)'' shows the number of tenants at ''Allanaquoich'' being reduced as part of the Highland Clearances from 18 tenants in 1739 to just 1 by 1810 as a result. Mar Lodge Estate is the largest remnant of the ancient ''Earldom of Mar'' in Aberdeenshire, Scotland and is now owned by the National Trust for Scotland. Quoich Water
The River Quoich is a tributary of the River Dee in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It flows in a generally southerly direction and is about 15 km long (including its upper reaches, known as Quoich Water, above the confluence with the Allt an dubh-ghlinne). The clachan of Allanaquoich is situated just above the river's confluence with the Dee. Mar Lodge Estate is a highland estate in western Aberdeenshire, Scotland, which has been owned and managed by the National Trust for Scotland (NTS) since 1995. Its principal building, Mar Lodge, is about west of the village of Braemar. Highland Clearances
The Highland Clearances ( gd, Fuadaichean nan Gàidheal , the "eviction of the Gaels") were the evictions of a significant number of tenants in the Scottish Highlands and Islands, mostly in two phases from 1750 to 1860. The first phase resulted from agricultural improvement, driven by the need for landlords to increase their income – many had substantial debts, with actual or potential bankruptcy being a large part of the story of the clearances. This involved the enclosure of the open fields managed on the run rig system and shared grazing. These were usually replaced with large-scale pastoral farms on which much higher rents were paid. The displaced tenants were expected to be employed in industries such as fishing, quarrying or the kelp industry. Their reduction in status from farmer to crofter was one of the causes of resentment.
