All Hell Breaks Loose (Destruction Album)
''All Hell Breaks Loose'' is the sixth studio album by German thrash metal band Destruction, released on 25 April, 2000 by Nuclear Blast. It was the first official album released since ''Cracked Brain'' in 1990, and the first with Schmier returning to vocals and bass since ''Release from Agony'' in 1988. It also marks the return of the band to a three-piece lineup. The album includes a cover of Metallica song " Whiplash". Content Although ''All Hell Breaks Loose'' is considered to be a return to thrash metal roots for Destruction, it still retains some of the groove metal influences from the band's 1990s releases from their "Neo-Destruction" period. Destruction (band)
Destruction is a German thrash metal band formed in 1982. They are often credited as one of the "Big Four" of the German thrash metal scene, the others being Kreator, Sodom and Tankard. In addition to helping pioneer black metal by containing several elements of what was to become the genre, Destruction was part of the second wave of thrash metal in the mid-to-late 1980s, along with American bands like Testament, Sacred Reich, Death Angel and Dark Angel. For most of the 1990s, the band was not signed to a record label and was forced to self-produce their albums until they signed a contract with Nuclear Blast in the early 2000s. History The band was formed in Weil am Rhein as Knight of Demon in 1982, inspired by Iron Maiden, Mercyful Fate, Motörhead and Venom. ''Release from Agony'' is the third studio album by German thrash metal band Destruction, released in November 1987 by Steamhammer/SPV in mainly Europe, and in 1988 by Profile/Rock Hotel Records in North America. This was their last studio album to feature bassist and lead vocalist Marcel "Schmier" Schirmer until he rejoined the band in 1999. Musically and lyrically, ''Release from Agony'' is much darker than Destruction's previous albums, and the album saw the band resemble a mixture of thrash metal with technical and progressive elements. Lars Ulrich (; ; born 26 December 1963) is a Danish musician best known as the drummer and co-founder of American heavy metal band Metallica. The son and grandson respectively of tennis players Torben and Einer Ulrich, he played tennis in his youth and moved to Los Angeles at age 16 to train professionally. James Alan Hetfield (born August 3, 1963) is an American musician. He is the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist, co-founder and a main songwriter of heavy metal band Metallica. Groove Metal
Groove metal is a subgenre of heavy metal music that began in the early 1990s. The genre achieved success in the 1990s and continued having success in the 2000s. Inspired by thrash metal and traditional heavy metal, groove metal features raspy singing and screaming, down-tuned guitars, heavy guitar riffs, and syncopated rhythms. Unlike thrash metal, groove metal is usually slower and also uses elements of traditional heavy metal. Pantera are often considered the pioneers of groove metal, and groove metal expanded in the 1990s with bands like White Zombie, Machine Head, and Sepultura. "Whiplash" is a song by American heavy metal music, heavy metal band Metallica. It was released as the first single from their debut album, ''Kill 'Em All'', and the band's debut single overall, released on January 23, 1984. The song has been covered a number of times, most notably by Motörhead, whose version won a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance. The single also includes fake live performances of "Seek & Destroy" and "Phantom Lord", which are actually alternate studio recordings with overdubbed crowd noise. ''Cracked Brain'' is the fourth full-length studio album by German thrash metal band Destruction, released in June 1, 1990. It is the band's only album to feature André Grieder of Poltergeist, replacing Schmier, who was fired after the initial sessions for the album. Recording and production Recording for ''Cracked Brain'' first started in 1989 but came to a halt when Destruction fired their vocalist and bassist Schmier.
