Ali Yafie
Kiai Hajji Ali Yafie (1 September 1926 – 25 February 2023) was an Indonesian faqih who was chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council. He was a prominent figure of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU), the largest Islamic organization in the world based in Indonesia, and served as a temporary chief adviser from 1991 to 1992. He was active as a principal of Pondok Pesantren Darul Dakwah Al Irsyad in Parepare, South Sulawesi, which he founded in 1947, and as a member of the advisory board for the Indonesian Association of Muslim Intellectuals (ICMI). Biography Yafie received his first education at a public elementary school, and continued the higher education at As'adiyah Madrasah in Sengkang, South Sulawesi. His major was Usul al-fiqh and he is widely known in Indonesia as an expert in this field. Sahal Mahfudh
Sahal Mahfudh (December 17, 1937January 24, 2014) was an Indonesian cleric. He was the spiritual leader (''rais aam') '' – the most senior cleric – of the Nahdlatul Ulama, Indonesia's largest Muslim majority organization, from 1999 to the time of his death in 2014. He was also chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). He took over the Maslakul Huda boarding school from his father, Kiai Mahfudz Salam, in 1963. Abdurrahman Wahid ( ; born Abdurrahman ad-Dakhil; 7 September 1940 – 30 December 2009), though more colloquially known as Gus Dur (), was an Indonesian politician and Islamic religious leader who served as the 4th president of Indonesia, from his election in 1999 until his removal from power in 2001. A long time leader within the Nahdlatul Ulama organization, he was the founder of the National Awakening Party (PKB).
