Alfred Shemweta
Alfred Shemweta (born February 19, 1970, in Lushoto, Tanzania) is a male long-distance runner who competed internationally for Sweden. He twice won the Stockholm Marathon during his career: 1999 and 2000. Shemweta set his personal best time of 2:14:52 in the men's marathon on June 12, 1999, as part of his winning run at the Stockholm Marathon. Long-distance running, or endurance running, is a form of continuous running over distances of at least . Physiologically, it is largely Aerobic exercise, aerobic in nature and requires endurance, stamina as well as mental strength. Within endurance running comes two different types of respiration. The more prominent side that runners experience more frequently is aerobic respiration. This occurs when oxygen is present, and the body is able to utilize oxygen to help generate energy and muscle activity. On the other side, anaerobic respiration occurs when the body is deprived of oxygen, and this is common towards the final stretch of races when there is a drive to speed up to a greater intensity. The Stockholm Marathon, known as the adidas Stockholm Marathon for sponsorship reasons, is an annual marathon arranged in Stockholm, Sweden, since 1979. It serves as the Swedish marathon championship race. At the 2009 Stockholm Marathon more than 18,500 participants (14,442 men and 4,385 women) were registered.
