Aleś Dudar
Aleś Dudar () was a pen name of Aliaksandr Dajlidovič (; 24 December 1904 – 29 October 1937), Belarusian poet, critic, translator and a victim of Stalin's purges. Early life Dudar was born into the family of a farm labourer in the village of Navasiolki, Mazyr county, Minsk province, Russian Empire (now Pietrykaŭ district in Homiel region of Belarus). During World War I, the family took refuge in the Tambov region of Russia but returned to Belarus in the spring of 1917. After finishing school in 1921, Dudar joined a theatre troupe and published his first poem. He was also engaged in literary criticism and translations from Russian, German and French and in 1923 became a member of “Maladniak” (the “Young Growth”), an association of young Belarusian poets. In 1927-28 Dudar studied Literature and Linguistics at the Belarusian State University. Vera Rich (born Faith Elizabeth Rich, 24 April 1936 – 20 December 2009) was a British poet, journalist, historian, and translator from Belarusian language, Belarusian and Ukrainian language, Ukrainian. Biography Born in London in April 1936, she studied at St Hilda's College, Oxford, St Hilda's College of the University of Oxford and Bedford College, London. 1937 Mass Execution Of Belarusians
In October 1937, there was a mass extermination of Belarusian writers, artists and statespeople by the Soviet Union occupying authorities. This event marked the peak of the Great Purge and Soviet repressions in Belarus, repressions of Belarusians in the Soviet Union, Soviet-controlled area of Eastern Belorussia, eastern Belarus. More than 100 notable persons were executed, most of them on the night of 2930 October 1937. Their innocence was later admitted by the Soviet Union after Joseph Stalin's death. History On 7 September 1937 Joseph Stalin signed a list of persons to be judged by a Soviet Military commission. The list was also signed by Vyacheslav Molotov, Lazar Kaganovich, Klim Voroshilov and Nikolay Yezhov.
